I was watching a documentary on the peopling of the new world and evidence the Solutrean culture of western Europe spread to the east coast of north America - 17,000 year old solutrean spear points in Virginia. Oh, and the narrator said Atlantic storms were more severe and winds generally higher during the ice age because of the greater contrast between the poles and the equator. Some here dont agree with that notion because it conflicts with their belief about global warming increasing the severity of the weather.
Another documentary explained why life as we know it took so long to evolve when life began almost 4 billion years ago after the "Earth" got smacked by an object almost large enough to destroy the planet. Because the collision was a glancing blow the Earth started spinning faster with a tilt (seasons), too fast for life to get far. The moon was much closer then and the tides were enormous, seismic activity would have been far worse, and the winds were far too strong for life to get a foothold on land. By a 1/2 billion years ago the Earth had slowed enough and the moon drifted away to allow for the development of animal life and conquest of the land. Strange, I seem to recall some creation story related to Genesis where God "imparted" the seasons to Earth.Comment

And this has WHAT to do with hurricanes?
Che and I have been trying to pound in your hollow head that it's MID-LATITUDE systems are fueled by temperature gradients, NOT tropical systems.
Ice Age = stronger mid-latitide storms and fewer and weaker hurricanes.Comment

My bad. The western Pacific has had 17 named storms this year so far; only 9 got to typhoon strength. The average of 27 is for named storms.KH FOR OWNER!
