  • Interesting thing about Navy, they've been decidedly worse at home. They squeaked by Eastern Carolina (by 5), UMass (by 1 ), and lost to Tulsa at home (by 1).

However, on the road, they are beasts. They ran Stanford out of their own stadium (37-9), hammered UConn in their house (41-17), but a closer affair against AirForce in Colorado (24-17) last week.

What this means for the Rutgers game? I dunno.. but I'm sure happy they are playing in Annapolis .

Not sure if Navy will win or not, but isn't it interesting how DanS is so interested in buffing up the opponents of Notre Dame this season (MSU, Navy, USC)?

    • No mystery there, dude. I follow those teams more closely than other teams.

MSU is the most inconsistent team that ND plays. I have a minimum of high regard for the program, but the team can play a half or 3 quarters of national championship ball, especially early in the year. The other times they suck hard, but they can catch a team napping, as they did to ND last year.

Because of the type of offense that it plays (option, ball possession), Navy can beat any team in college football on any given Saturday. ND nearly beat USC last year with the ball possession game, so I know how well it works.

USC speaks for itself, but some of y'all apparently need reeducated.

      • VT busts a coverage that leads to a touchdown and the DBs are on the sideline yelling at each other.

Just the kind of behavior we've come to expect from VT players.

        • ohio state has more a chance losing to msu than usc does to arizona state? are you pulling these odds out of thin air and would you like to wager on them? ill bet you osu's victory margin will be more than usc's this weekend. if i lose ill put some sort of spartan thing in my sig. if osu flat out loses ill not only put a usc thing but also request a name change to spartan's maid for the rest of college football season

I don't know why you bother, frankly.

Re OSU-MSU, OSU leads the series 24-12. But in November 1998, an unranked MSU team beat a #1 OSU in the horseshoe.

Re USC-ASU, USC leads the series 13-9, but has won the last 6, only one of which has been close. Pete Carroll hasn't lost against ASU.

                  • oh john cooper, why did you ruin every national championship run. if you want to bring up carrols record against asu why not sweatervests against msu? are you that kind of guy dan? the one that makes arguements and comparisons that are not genuine or honest?

being an osu fan i remember that game well and 8 years is a long time to remember a game that painful.

                    • I would bring up Professor McSweatervest's record against MSU, except that he's only played them 3 times. But while we're at it, I note that none of the 3 games was a blowout.

                      • Plus, MSU had OSU dead to rights last year before experiencing one their trademark Spartan Collapses.

I will be shocked--SHOCKED--if MSU beats OSU. But I think the Spartans have a better chance than the Sun Devils. ASU is habitually overrated, and is nowhere near as good a team as they were last year. My odds of loss has nothing to do with margin of victory. Just my gut feeling of how likely the favorite is to choke, given the situation.

                        • Well, if there was any doubt that Georgia is highly overrated, a second consecutive home chokejob, to freaking Vanderbilt, should erase it.

Rutgers is dominating against Navy on the road. Still don't like Greg Schiano, Imran?

                          • No, I still don't like him . Wait until we have to face a close test and Schiano blows the playcalling. Hell, wait we face off against Louisville and WVU and the beatings we get from that. He's a horrible game day coach, even though he has skills at recruiting (think John L. Smith at MSU).

Iowa loses to Indiana and Georgia to Vandy. Let's hear it for the small schools.

                            • Well, UNC lost big to South Florida, 37-20. NCSU lost to Wake. Virginia, another ACC team in a down year, is currently beating Maryland, an ACC team that isn't AS down as them. FSU, thankfully, beat Duke. VT lost big, but Clemson keeps rolling. Half the games this week have gone backwards. The ACC, I think, is the worst BCS conference this year. If you're all into betting on bowl games this year, it's probably safe to go against the ACC team.

IN OTHER NEWS, NCAA basketball season has officially begun! Practices began all across the nation last night and today. ACC teams to watch: UNC, GT, Duke, Virginia, BC, and FSU all will be top 25 teams at the end of the year. You can bank on it!

Peterson out for season with broken collarbone
                                Associated Press

NORMAN, Okla. -- Heisman Trophy hopeful Adrian Peterson broke his collarbone on a dive into the end zone Saturday, and the Oklahoma star running back will miss the rest of the regular season.

Peterson was injured on his last carry of the game -- a 53-yard scoring run with about 6:40 remaining that completed the 23rd-ranked Sooners' 34-9 win over Iowa State.

Peterson ran for 183 yards and two touchdowns.

Peterson, a junior, who has 1,030 yards this season and entered the weekend as the nation's fourth-leading rusher, was second in Heisman voting as a freshman. He was playing for the first time in years before his father, who had spent about eight years in federal prison for money laundering.

"Just diving into the end zone and when he landed, he landed wrong," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said. "At this point it looks like the best thing, the earliest he would be ready to play, would be a bowl game."
