    • In the AP poll, Auburn is #11 and Arkansas is #17.

In the USA Today poll, Auburn is #10 and Arkansas is #23.

      What the ****ing ****?

Arkansas doesn't deserve to be any higher. I guess you can be upset that Auburn didn't drop ~20 spots, but that's never going to happen in the AP poll, no matter how overrated a team may be...

      • My rankings for this week...

        1. OSU
        2. USC (a win against a solid Washington team)
        3. Michigan
        4. Florida (ugly win against a solid LSU team)
        5. Cal (nice beatdown of Oregon)
        6. Tennessee (nice comeback and beatdown of Georgia)
        7. Notre Dame (stays same due to weak competition)
        8. Louisville (moves down due to weak competition)
        9. Iowa (moves into top 10)
        10. Texas (moves into top 10)

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. • USC still second. I think Dan is doing it just to piss of MRT. Otherwise... well, I have no idea.

Also concerning Cal at #5 and Tennessee at #6.... wasn't there a big game in Week 1 involving those teams?

            • According to Sagarin, USC so far has had the 2nd most difficult schedule. It's not only about what USC did this week, but also about what its other competitors did this week.

I think the team deserves a #2 ranking.

              • You are nuts. They win less and less convincingly every week against average (or worse) competition.

Btw, interestingly enough in Sagarin's rankings Florida is ranked #2. You like to speak about strength of schedule so much, but it is just cover for your biases . When the undefeated team with the #10th hardest schedule is ranked below the undefeated team with the #26th hardest schedule, we know what is up .

                • I weight his ELO-CHESS a little higher than his pure points.

                  • Explain Cal ranked above Tennessee then?

In both factors (ELO-CHESS and SOS), Tennessee wins.

I do include in my rankings a consideration of what I see.

                      • Interesting about ELO-CHESS:

In ELO-CHESS, only winning and losing matters; the score margin is of no consequence,
which makes it very "politically correct". However it is less accurate in its predictions for
upcoming games than is the PURE POINTS, in which the score margin is the only thing that matters.
PURE POINTS is also known as PREDICTOR, BALLANTINE, RHEINGOLD, WHITE OWL and is the best single PREDICTOR
                        of future games.

Why use a measure that doesn't take into account score margin? When Sagarin says that his Pure Points is a much better predictor?

Trying to justify an unjustifiable USC at #2 .

Btw, did that also include the *cough* week 1 matchup between both teams?

                          • The Cal-TN game is a valid point. I'll consider flipping them.

With regard to ELO-CHESS versus pure points, the ELO-CHESS just seems more accurate right now. For instance, according to pure points, a two loss Penn State team would be beating a one loss Notre Dame team at a neutral site this weekend. Hey, it might be the most correct, but I wouldn't rank them that way.

This is pretty much a problem that will go away. As discussed for a couple of years, ELO-CHESS and pure points pretty much converge over the course of the season.

                            • ELO-Chess seems more accurate when Sagarin himself says the Predictor is more accurate?!

I mean the ELO says Tulsa will beat Oklahoma. So that isn't better than the some of the strange results in the Predictor.

There is no doubt about it, Auburn is good, and definitely deserves ranking. Just Arkansas is better. Especially on a good day like yesterday. (All the team excelled. HDN didn't get in the way. Mustain didn't throw any INTs.)

Noone's going to rank UA higher than AU though, least not this week. We all know and accept that. The higher ranking is going to have to be earned--even though this month we'll put up three more Ws, they will be on garbage teams like Southeast Missouri and Ole Miss. Expect Arkansas to move up seriously in the rankings once it beats South Carolina, Tennessee, and LSU.

Arkansas is coming from back-to-back losing seasons and razor-thin victories over Vandy and Bama. That Arkansas deserves a #25 ranking, if that high, no denying that. But because of those rough times we have to earn our way out of the hole. More games like yesterday and Arkansas will make the top 10, even 5.

October won't earn us out of the hole much, but the pillow fight schedule will give a great chance to experiment with new offensive ideas. Anyone who's paying attention can tell you if things work out, the Hogs could sweep the remainder of the season.
