But try to look at it from ND's perspective. They have an excellent coach who is getting all sorts of overtures from pro teams. They have watched his every move for 8 months. ND knows they'll want to exercise the option for 5 add'l years of his services after the first 5, so why not take him off the table while they can?

They also believe that they have the best football coach in the nation (and they are in a good position to opine on such things), but let's leave that stuff aside for the moment.

From what I've seen, Professor McSweatervest is among the best.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Imran. This guy, this senior, is who you think should be starting over freshman Matthew Stafford? If they weren't going to redshirt Stafford, he needs to be playing.

                  51-33 Tennessee over Georgia.

                          1) Ohio State (even though they pay their players)
                          2) Michigan
                          3) West Virginia (I think they squeak past Louisville later in the year)
                          4) Florida
                          5) Auburn
                          6) Tennesee
                          7) USC (not impressive, why are they #1 - 3?)
                          8) Clemson
                          9) Cal
                          10) LSU (I like their QB)

Notes: 1) Oregon lost to Oklahoma, why vote them top 10? 2) Texas lost big to the only "somebody" they've played, and they've beaten "nobody," so I give their spot to Clemson since the ACC beats the Big 12 anyway. 3) I obviously watch more Eastern/SE sports than anything.
Alright, I think I did pretty well with my Top 10, but my picks for this week were lousy. I was all ready to drop Florida from my top 10, but LSU just absolutely gave them the game. I'm ready and willing to put Texas in the top 10 now. New top 10:

                          1) OSU
                          2) Michigan (still impressive)
                          3) West Virginia
                          4) Florida (I'm still skeptical, but they keep winning)
                          5) Tennessee
                          6) Cal (helluva game today; they'll beat USC)
                          7) Texas (OU would've gotten this spot if they'd won)
                          8) Clemson (gotta give some love to the ACC)
                          9) Louisville (till they lose to WVU and Rutgers in a row)
                          10) USC (and falling fast!)

                          • I did tell you all that Tennessee was better than you thought . And yes, Sloww, I think Joe T deserves to start over Stafford. It was unfortunate that his first game back from injury was against Tennessee, but it happens. And this year he's a better option than Stafford. Hell, Stafford had 5 attempts and 1 int in those.

Cal is looking really nice... well their play. Those uniforms against Oregon were UGH! It seemed like the teams were reveresed and Cal were the ugly uniform school and Oregon were the classy uniform school. Strange.

Though I will say USC is not looking all that great. I think Cal has a great chance to knock them off.

Florida looked very nice against LSU and, with Tennessee (who they beat by 1), look like the class of the SEC.

                              • Right now, I can definitely say that I want Tennessee to play OSU for the championship. I think they're the team that has the best chance to beat them. OSU isn't going to go for any of that sissy flea-flicking Florida stuff, and they'll score all over USC and Cal. I think Ten just has the best mix of offense and defense to have a shot at beating OSU.
