But try to look at it from ND's perspective. They have an excellent coach who is getting all sorts of overtures from pro teams. They have watched his every move for 8 months. ND knows they'll want to exercise the option for 5 add'l years of his services after the first 5, so why not take him off the table while they can?
They also believe that they have the best football coach in the nation (and they are in a good position to opine on such things), but let's leave that stuff aside for the moment.
