  • US Iraq war rising up the rankings...

Anyone noticed how casualties in the war in Iraq are gradually rising up the league table of wars fought by the US?

Currently it is ranked 8th in terms of soldiers killed, out of 12 'wars' the US has fought, just recently surpassing the numbers killed in the Spanish-American War after surpassing the 1812 War a while back...

2,607 Killed and 19,387 wounded as of Aug 19th (CNN) with no end in sight, indeed according to The Independent, this August has been one of the bloodiest months for US casualties with 64 killed.

    And for what...?

The attacks coincided with President George Bush's launch of a pre-election round of speeches to rally Americans behind the Iraq campaign. "If America were to pull out before Iraq could defend itself, the consequences would be absolutely predictable and absolutely disastrous," he said. "We would be handing Iraq over to our worst enemies. They would have a new sanctuary ... with huge oil riches."
All absolutely true - because he created the problem by toppling Saddam over non-existent WMD's!

Bush is handing regional power to Iran on a plate and there is nothing he can do about it except needlessly expend the lives of more and more US soldiers...

I think you may have them two the wrong way around. I can't be sure though.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

I find it difficult to believe that Iraq has as many casualties as the Napoleonic era bloodbaths of the war of 1812.

Well, believe it. Frankly I was surprised too, but then that merely supports what a fiasco this war in Iraq has proven to be...

The next milestone is the Revolutionary War itself at 4,435.

With the current US death toll standing at 2,633 that isn't looking that far away. Just over two years at today's rate of casualties...

The Iraq war wasn't started because of WMD but because of regime change. The current situation in Iraq would have started ANY MOMENT after Sadam would've been gone. Sooner or later.

Regime change was the reason for GWB to start the Iraq war. And the possible future collaboration between Iraq and terrorists.

WMD was the reason for Blair and most other allies of GWB. And only if the existance of WMD could be proven France, Germany and Russia would have participated since they were only interested in protecting themselves and didn't care about a people far away from their voters.
