    I am always a bit sceptical about impending doom scenarios, when I was at school in the 80's the current thinking was that the oil would run out in 2000 and we were about to enter another ice age.

    However there does seem to be fair amount of evidence of the climate warming up.
    Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

      A small, modern warming isn't denied.

        I guess my question is this: ok, you don't like carbon emissions, and therefore coal power plants are something you want done away with. But if the plants are shut down, right now, how do you take up the slack. Even assuming conserving some power, you'd be waaaaay short.

        By all means, vote for the Greens. Support alternative power generation (hell, I pay more than I have to on my power bill for just such a purpose). But this? Moronic.

          the consequences of trying to prevent global warming are not terrible. we take a quality of life hit. the scientists might be wrong and global warming is a sham, but the consequences of not doing anything in the second scenario involve a much higher quality of life hit

          but hey Im mister procrastination. I cant expect other people to get their fingers out if they dont beleive global warming MIGHT be bad

            But what if there is no Global Warming, but we do something to prevent it anyways... and end up causing Global Cooling instead!

                        This global warming skepticism is a clear symptom of humanity's waning faith in objectively verified, empirical truth, combined with our loss of faith in religion.

                        You jacked my thread for a troll; now we're even.

                          I wonder if the company that owns the powerstation also manufactures space shuttles?

                                So it's a self-regulating system: Auto-emissions ==> Global warming ==> Ice cap melting ==> Coastal flooding ==> Reduced driving......
