The "consensus" is only among the closed network of climatologists - when statisticians see the methods employed (assuming the raw data hasn't been hidden, cherry-picked or manipulated already), they are staggered to see how policy can be affected by a group that only peer reviews itself and reaches such dubious conclusions.

I'd be relatively satisfied with econometricians, given their experience with applied statistical problems (time-series model fitting in the presence of proxy autocorrelation, etc).

Of course, any methods employed would originally be derived from the statistical field, rather than the climatological field, and all data and methods would be fully published and detailed.

The disruption is easily solved. Arrest everyone, fine them for the economic costs/lost business productivity their actions caused, make sure the media gets a hold of it so the other dickheads know what is waiting for them if they do similiar things.
