Yeah, Taiwan just seized Taiwan from the Taiwanese.

they took sovereignty, which made sense, from their POV, since they were the govt of China and the locals were just the citizens of one province. Did they actually seize private property? Or even provincial property?

But Im happy that you agree that full sovereignty should revert from the Republic of China per se, to the people of Taiwan! Viva independent Taiwan!!

I think it's silly not to recognize reality.

          good.

And the reality is 1. No US govt is going to drop the claims, or end the boycott of Cuba, until theres change in the direction of political and economic liberalization in Cuba - and when there is such change, the momentum to end the boycott and drop the claims, will be insurmountable. The only domestic US debate will be about HOW how far along Cuba has to be, how much to emphasize economic VS political liberalization, and how much to focus on substance vs personalities and institutions (is economic liberalization still good if the Cuban Communist party is implementing it?)

          2. Theres not going to be any US sanctions on Venezuala under current conditions.

          3. The current admin is likely to keep up a rhetorical game against Chavez. As others have pointed out, this probably benefits Chavez, and is unwise.
