  • Cuba & Venezuela

Do you think is in the interest of the U.S.A. to normalize his relation with Cuba and Venezuela?

And do you think, if we think about morality; Does U.S.A. need to normalise his relation with Cuba and Venezuela?

What do you think of Hugo Chavez? I'm reading about him, he seems to be a "soft" despot; and good helpers for the poor of his country.

They want to, but they have to save face. They can't appear to be soft on communism or populism, because they don't want it to spread.

No. No. And Chavez, the socialist despot, can suck my dick. If it were possible, we should embargo Venezuela, like we have done Cuba. Venezuela can do what it pleases, but it's not in our interests to support the current Venezuelan regime with our considerable commerce.

Also, I think you need to work on your thread titles to make them more incindiary.

It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. I need to know why you(your country) should embargo Venezuela?

And do you think Cuba will have been "a better place" to live, if your country were not isolating this Island. Maybe by trading with Cuba, flooding this country with capitals, new products, you would be able to increase the middle-class, creating an "interior force"(bourgeoisie) who will be asking for more freedom, more consumate goods(t.v., dvd, luxury, etc...)? And creating new political force into the country???

Oh yeah I know, my topic title sucks!

Because it is not in the US interest to support socialist dictators, especially those who make common cause with our enemies. Right now, we are almost the sole market for Venezuela, and, as such, we are supporting Chavez's actions.

And do you think Cuba will have been "a better place" to live, if your country were not isolating this Island,
I don't know. That's not our problem. We don't govern Cuba. One of the only things we can do is either support or not support something.

I definitely owuldn't want a "normalization" of the US relationship with Cuba before the post-Castro regime (be it communist or capitalist) become firmly established by the Cubans themselves. A "normalization" of the relationship would involve the US cocaclonizing all of Cuba, and turning the island back to its bordello status.
I also think that if the US had a free hand in Cuba, it would become destitute and desperate like pretty much any caribbean nation.

I would see no problem with the US normalizing its relationship with Venezuela. The regime might even become less Chavez-centred (and thus less of an elective dictatorship) if the US stopped supporting the cabal that wants to turn Venezuela back to the "good old days" where the country's riches all served the interests of a small aristocracy.

I don't think the US should embargo anyone because they happen to be communist/populist. The US continuing trade with China makes embargos on a country like Cuba seem hypocritical at best.

So I would drop the embargo on Cuba. Its a lovely country by the way and perhaps my favorite vacation spot in the region.

Venezuela?? I dislike expropriation in any form when people legitimately invest. If I were the government of any nation that had had its major companies robbed of their investment, I would look for ways to rob Venezuala right back.I would look for the right moment and then "nationalize" every Venezualan government bank account, asset, or molecule of oil. I wouldn't stop until the books were balanced.

The point isn't to compensate the original victims of the Ven. actions. Instead it is to punish ANY country that thinks taht foreign investors are just folks to be robbed.

It wasn't evil enough. You can barely top "despot". Maybe he'll be called a "nazi" in the next thread
