What's a southerner?

Floridans are Southerns, however, Southern Floridians are not. Native Floridians speak with a Southern accent, call themselves crackers, are proud to be rednecks, eat BBQ and fried foods, grits, biscuits and gravy, had slavery and segregation, and are the home of two of the major Southern rock bands, Molly Hatchet and Lynyrd Skynyd (both from Jacksonville--oddly enough, so are Limp Bizkit and Yellowcard).

really che the folks from miami refused to be called southern. when i was there they said ther wernt part of the south. And the folks from georgia alabama to the left to Lousianna say texas isnt part of the south. i dunno must be jsut certain groups of poeple that believe this

re: Florida

Miami aint southern. West Palm aint southern. Orlando aint southern.

AFAIK Talahasse and Pensacola ARE southern.

Jacksonville is southern. Esp West and North Jax. Arlington isnt southern, though. Nor is Orange Park. OTOH even Baymeadows yuppies (is Baymeadows still yuppie) had a touch of southernness.

All the rurual counties just south and west of Jax were definitely southern. Bet you boiled peanuts they were.
