Y'know, if you're going to pull screenshots from deprecated software, should we be *****ing about how IE4 and Netscape 4 are terrible, security-wise?
It's to illustrate the lack of a clue the developers of Opera have. Interface-wise they're just copying Firefox now.

No, but it didn't take a rocket scientist to tweak it.
What I oobject about is using an old version of a program to diss the latest version. I would love to see the spasm our local MS fanboy would get in to when someone starts ranting about XP and using Win95 screenshots.
But hey, be as happy with Firefox as I am with Opera...

Opera 7 is just 3 years old -- it's an example of the crappy interfaces they had for 7 versions until Firefox's popularity.
Because of Firefox, Opera stopped charging for a webbrowser and overhauled their hideous interface (which still needs work). I'm not sure what the point is of using a browser that's just playing catchup to the real deal.

Uh....
[q=Asher]They seem to have no concept whatsoever of usability design and user experience. They develop nifty things and keep throwing things in a big pile and leave it at that. It's not until Firefox came and kicked ass that they started to give usability some thought. [/q]
Hence, using an old version to critique the interface design of the company before competition in the small browser marker made them shape up.
Just because it is God ugly doesn't mean you have to get mad at Asher for making a valid point.

Who cares who's copying whom? Firefox does plenty of copying from Opera and I don't see you complaining about that. I just want to have the best possible product.
I think both browsers are fine. But they're different. Some people prefer one, some people prefer the other. Luckily, we can choose.

As a webdeveloper, I instantly saw the same problem Asher see's - the Interface for Opera is horrible.
Fine, you don't like Opera's interface, I can see that. But that's your opinion and has nothing to do with usability.

Yes, it does. Opera 7 and below are virtually textbook examples of poor HCI design, 8 and 9 are better but still need work.
This isn't an opinion as much as understanding usability design of interfaces.

Yeah, THAT'S THE ****ING POINT! Before FF's ascendancy in the small browser market, Opera didn't care about making a decent interface. Competition did its job here in forcing Opera to make a more FF-ish interface.

I've got real player installed, I don't understand what the problem is. It's very simple to set a new defult player, and what do I care if someone who doesn't know me knows what I'm watching/listening to. What are they going to do with this information?
Man, this is my last post in this thread, or Asher must say something stupid again...

From Asher's first post in this thread:
As for switching to Opera, that is a personal choice -- kind of like driving a Lada. Personally, I can't stand Opera's interface...
It looks to me he started talking about Opera Version Now and in later posts crawled back to his position of "Hey, Opera Pre 8 sucked donkeyballs and now they are copying Firefox"
