Who was elected, rather than anointed by judges his daddy and his daddy's ex-boss appointed.
You mean the two democratically elected presidents who selected judges through our democratic system who then decided the election was fair though the same democratic sysetem???

America's military today is engaged in conflicts against enemies on foreign soil that are not a threat to subjugating the American people to any sort of tyrannical rule...

Of course, we haven't fought on enemy like that since 1812.

Obvious though that answer may seem, I don't think you can definitively prove that.

Yeah, currently our electorate is pretty divided and we get close presidential elections, which in 2000 was SO close that legal questions related to the recount in Florida ended up in the SCOTUS, where justices who had been appointed and confirmed constitutionally had to make a legal decision, which many disagree with.

How fortunate for Britian that she has a leader like Tony Blair, who can win such large majorities so regularly.

How unfortunate for the U.S. that it has an election decided by the state officials in the state in which one presidential candidate's brother just happens to be governor, and by judges chosen by one presidential candidate's father and the father's ex-boss.

Why bother voting at all ? Oh that's right- some of Florida's citizens couldn't !

How they saw it at the time:

I felt like [the Florida Supreme Court's Decision] was not a fair decision at the time, and I felt like they had rewritten a law, and- you know, so therefore.

It certainly was unfortunate for the US that the 2000 election was so close that the determinations of state officials was important. It would have been more fortunate if the election had been clearer. I dont disagree.

It might have been more fortunate if the state that had been tied, had been say, Ohio, rather than Florida. But I dont think anyone really thinks the Bushes somehow engineered it that Florida would be the dead heat, so that it could be in a state that Jeb Bush was governor of.
Or that Jeb Bush decided to run for gov of Fla, rather than say, Georgia, in order to be in position to effect the Pres election.

As for SCOTUS, since the two sides kept appealing the decisions of lower courts, it was inevitable it would end up there. And yes, under our system the President nominates SC justices. And yes, since many vacancies occured during the admin of George Bush Sr and Ronald Reagan, there were many SC justices who had been appointed by them.

And do you really think that any SC justices appointed by Reagan felt that they owed something to W because they had been appointed by Reagan, under whom Bush,Sr had served as VP? Im afraid I dont see how that would create loyalty to W. Certainly there are many former Reagan officials who vigorously oppose W and his policies.
