For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Thanks to morons like him, you can run your mouth, freely.
America's military today is engaged in conflicts against enemies on foreign soil that are not a threat to subjugating the American people to any sort of tyrannical rule... not even in their wildest dreams could enemies like the Taliban, the insurgents in Iraq (or before war in Iraq started... Saddam's regime) think about invading America and imposing their will upon us.
And even if they were strong even to pose even the slightest threat to us, in this day and age, nuclear deterence and the deterence of America's conventional capabilities and ability to project force around the globe protect this country far more than the average grunt.
To say that some random ground pounder "protects our freedoms" may make for a great motivational tool, or a great recruitment poster... but to say such a thing in order to criticize someone for their opinions is not only just plain ignorant, it's completely incorrect.
In fact, the ignorant morons who say things like that pose more of a threat to free speech than the enemies America is facing abroad. To us, it is the BEAST.

"The freedom of speech in America, and other such freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, were around long before Jimmy McCain and others like him joined the military."
Sava, give your brain a rest. These Rights didn't just materialize.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

And what gets my goat is that kind of crap that I hear because it goes against the very ideals you claim people like McCain are fighting for.
Loving freedom means respecting everyone else's right to express those freedoms... whether you agree with their opinions or not.
It's a shame that at your age (and after your own experience, you served, correct?), that you still don't understand that.
And even though I don't serve in the military, if America was under attack from a foreign power and we were under a direct threat, I'd be out there. But thankfully, I'm not needed and hopefully that day will never come.To us, it is the BEAST.

So most likely, we'll have Democrat's Latest Loser vs. McCain in '08.

It is an honor to serve. Some of you should try it."And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man." -- JFK Inaugural, 1961

So yes, they do help defend everyone's right to free speech.
You can't project force witout a force, without the average grunt, there is no force.
All that aside, I hope this doesn't turn into a Manchurian Candidate thing......
Sorry, just watched it this week.

I, we or they insured it now, Sava.
The one's of today that so many seem to hold in distain or keeping it alive, for you. You need to learn appreciation. Peace time is no different. They're ready to pay the price. That's all I'm saying. Agree with Iraq or not, you best be glad for members of the service. You're a fool if you're not. But then, my generation, in particular, are used to fools.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

Lots of funny stuff in this thread. I agree, ultimately, with DD that this really isn't news except to the Michael Moore's the world. Secondly, to say McCain (the Senator) isn't the one with the best shot at the Presidency right now is being ignorant. Third,at General Ludd for making himself look like an idiot so easily.

At this point in time, he has my vote. The best thing for the country would be a strong challenger.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.
