  • When do you say thats it???

I need to know when u call it a day and say enough is enough!! I have been in florence oregon for almost 2 months now, and i have managed to rack up 3 tickets from the cops in 2 weeks. the last one was my favorite. I didnt have proper license sticker on my back licsence plate. I told the cop after i was asked for registration that it is on the windshield where the folks in texas now put our registration, he said it should be on the plate i didnt know what to say other then that thats were we put them in our state. got me a nice 150 dollar ticket for not having stickers on my plates.
The one before that got me a 282 dollar ticket for following to close , I was trying to pass in a legal passing zone. the cop pulled me over for following to close... I told him i was trying to pass this guy and well in order to pass i aasume u need to get close enough to go around him. I dont know but i think im a target in oregon cause i got out of state plates. Has anyone else got bogus tickets????

Been here 18 years without problems, no tickets. Fight the sticker one, that sounds like BS.

Regarding the following too close, were you maintaining the 2 second rule? If so, that one's bogus too. Tougher to beat though. Just by going to contest these moving violations the cost should be cut in half, I think...

The one about the sticker, you need to contact texas state police and have them fax a statement about where texas puts their sticker, and bring a pic of your windshield complete with sticker. That should get that ticket thrown out.

My ex-girlfriend was also from Texas and she too was a tailgater. Sometimes it was scary how close she'd get to other cars.

I don't want to assume guilt although the story sounds like an excuse. That said, her excuse isn't too bad and might get her a reduction.

I'm not saying Mrs T is one of these, but I've noticed that in the summer when there are lots of tourists that bring their bad habits up here and one must be alot more careful on the roads. 'Foreigners' don't stop at stops, they look before they leap, don't use signals and they are always bothered by those who actually obey the law, spreading their stress. We are more relaxed up here, less stressed, pushy, or hurried. People who move up here seem to take a few years to get 'oregonized', or they run screaming back south as soon as they can sell their house. Some of the reason for that is cultural, some the rain.

After Mrs T's first ticket, up in Newport, I thought to warn her. Well no warning can protect someone from a cop giving a stupid ticket for a sticker, but the following to close...

We have a local cops barracks here, a state cops barracks and a county sheriff just for good measure.

In Florence, you obey the law, or you pay the law. I have a feeling that Mrs T will say good ridence when she leaves, and that's too bad.

I think Tuberski has veto power over those suggestions, MRT. Unless you're implying that he gets it and that helps somehow...

Everyone seems to be right on these. The sticker one, yes, fight that. You should be able to get it thrown out. On the other hand, it is entirely possible the judge will say "I don't care how it's done in Texas. Your not in Texas right now so do it our way!". It just depends on the judge.

The "too close" one sounds like an "officers discretion" call on the officers part. I dout you could beat that ticket, but contesting it should reduce the fine.

I notice that details of the third violation were withheld? I take it that one was legitimate?

My solution to getting pulled over: be as polite as possible and do not admit to anything. I've been "warned" at least three times as many times as I've been ticketed. Then again, I also haven't been pulled over in about five years or so.

Actually Sloww, you may be right on the money. Mrs T should call the texas state cops and find out if they will enforce these tickets. Some states have such agreements, others not. If not, then just forget em and if she ever comes through Oregon again let Mr T drive.

Another question for the texas state cops, is there a statute of limitations on tickets? Will they vanish in 7 years?

If the ticket was in Texas, they could withhold issuance of her next driver's license renewal. Could, not necessarily would.
