You would otherwise buy a $95,000 car?

Apparently, a $50,000 sedan is the next car that they will be working on.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

1 cent a mile would make it $1.35/gallon equivalent.
Missing in the conversion is the mpg of whatever is being used as a comparison.

Let's use my civic. I get 30-32mpg commuting. Gas here costs ~$3.20/gallon.

10 gallons ($32) gets me 300-320 miles... which is roughly 10 cents per mile, no?

That's right. I was backing out the ~4x efficiency of the electric car.

Of course, I'm guessing that your car can't hit 60 mph in 4 seconds, either.

Pretty interesting combination, at least for novelty's sake. I'm sure some roadster enthusiasts will buy one to try something new.

                Didn't Tesla die childless?

No idea. Does that mean anyone can use his name? Tesla motors has no connection to Tesla except they use electrons?

They use an AC induction motor for the powertrain, which was invented about a century ago by Tesla.

Mostly, it's a bunch of electrical engineers honoring Tesla. Anybody can use the name Tesla.
