Anyone seen it already? It's easy to see why this movie (will) takes a lot of flak from history buffs and fans of political thrillers, since its approach is very unusual compared to most pictures in the genre. I doesn't attempt to present a comprehensive account of the political going-ons in the time-period (from her marriage with Louis XVI to the French revolution), with the characters almost as pieces of decorum, rather it puts focus straight to how she experienced things: as that of an adolescent unable to deal with responsibilities she was burdened with. The movie doesn't present the main characters (Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI) as particularly good or bad persons, or as masterminds or as idiots, but simply as human beings. It's a beautiful movie and a very refreshing change of tack from most rigid and facts-obsessed historical movies. If you liked Oliver Stone's Nixon and Coppola's previous movie, Lost In Translation, you'll probably like this one too.

Let them see ass!I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Though the concept sounds really good. I'll be sure to check it out (sees Netflix queue at 60)... errr, sometime.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Marie-Antoinette was scum, and any film that despicts her even in a slightly positive light doesn't deserve to get watched."I have been reading up on the universe and have come to the conclusion that the universe is a good thing." -- Dissident
"I never had the need to have a boner." -- Dissident
"I have never cut off my penis when I was upset over a girl." -- Dis

I agree with Spiffor... what is this with putting French people in a good light?!“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
