Last time I checked, Hizbullah was born out of the Israeli invasion of 1982. After 18 years of occupation israel had failed to pacify southern Lebanon and when it left, Hizbullah took over.

So lets say Israel invaded again and takes out Hizbullah's ability to hit Israel in Israel. But it won;t be able to destroy Hizbullah anymore than last time, and IF Israel occupies southern Lebanon again, which they would have to do, Hizbullah again becomes the great center of resistance against Zionist aggression and its popularity amongst the southern lebanese and the Palestinians in Lebanon will remain high...So in the end, Israel will simply have another long occupation on its hands. Glad to see that Israel knows what it wants....

And Hizbullah ends up being a far greater threat to Israel than the PLO ever was because the PLO (being Palestinians) were all alone, even in Lebanon, where the Lebanse hate Palestinians, but the Shia in southern Lebanon have friends.


The problem is that Lebanon itself is almost a fiction. The government can;t take on Hizbullah because the government is a slap-dash assortment of different ehtnic groups that can;t even agree to have a census for fear of actually knowing which group could demand the lion's share of the spoils. Israel's actions will not deny Hizbullah its support in the south, and unless Israel plans to commit genocide in southern Lebanon, this offensive won't get rid of Hizbullah anymore than actions previously. So we move the clock back to 1982
