I hear your argument. The 13 yo is far more advnced then u give them credit for. He is not quite an adult but not quite a child. At this age he knows right from wrong better then a 6 yo. You cant tell me in this day and age that a 13 yo wouldnt know that killing is wrong. Hell thier parents arent even legally abled to spank them. This Kid knew what he did was wrong. He knew well enough to lie about his actions because he knew what he did was wrong.
To your other statment. I think most folks agree that the prisons systems are doing what they can, it is up to the prisioner to make good of thier time there. If a prisioner chooes to remain a menace there is nothing anyone can do. If he chooses to accept responsibility for is doings and change his lief the prison dont stop him from soing so. They offer many programs to rehabilitate them. Bottom line its up to the prisioner to take advantage of that

Whaleboy, it seems undeniable and compelling logic for some.

Well it seems like an undeniable tautology for some, but it seems to work on the premise that the killing of one person attones for the death of another, where in reality it is the perfect escape from responsibility for that act.

An eye for an eye: Like most tautologies, little information has gone into it, and little can come out of it.

Now, in principle, I agree with Mrs Tubes. Ultimately, we have to take responsibility for our actions. While I don't agree with the view that some people are just "plain evil", I think that it's all to easy to hide behind excuses such as "it was [this persons] upbringing".

Of course, the fact that a person should be locked up for the rest of their days as a matter of public protection (as opposed to punishment which, against a 12 year old, is dubious at best), should not preclude the fact that that persons life is still valuable and it wouldn't be fair to prohibit them from atoning for their actions in their own way.

That said, I think we'd all be idiots if we were to pass judgement in this case. I'd imagine it's going to be highly complex, and so an article which wreaks slightly of sensationalism is hardly sufficient evidence for us to discuss this particular individual.
