What makes the perfect Martini and is there one?

Appletinis, chocotinis, whoknowswhatinis, etc, are probably fine as cocktails, or at least as foo-foo drinks, but they're not martinis.

I like olives just fine, especially when soaked in good gin.

Sounds like it! I had a dirty Martini once and really liked it compared to a regular one. It didn't seem to have quite the bite that the regular one had.
