You did say you'd lay to the ground anyone who'd do it your grandson. Why would you react in such an aggressive way if you acknowledge it was only an unconventional mannerism, and not a malicious act?

Colon, let me ask you, would you allow a perfect stranger, leader or not, a stranger come up, raise your childs shirt and kiss the belly of a child of yours, without permission

If I were in a situation in which we were introduced to a stranger (which is more akin to what happened than the "bypasser on a street" scenario) and he'd do that, I'd be surprised, yes maybe even uncomfortable, but if it were obvious that no malice is intended I wouldn't think bad he's a creep nor feel a desire to smash him. I do not judge people on their form, but on their intent.

When I read about the story on BBC, my first thought was that it was news because you wouldn't expect Putin to shown warm affection, and it rather made me think well of the man that he could publicly could do it to a kid. Only afterwards it dawned to me that the reason was the unconventional manner of it. Still didn't expect it would lead people to call him a creep and the like.

      Because he was a stranger

But Putin walked up to him not someone introducing this family to Putin

Er, I imagine this is either customary or close enough to it in Russia, if there's no major scandal. They probably just think it's weird. If that. Expressions of affection vary greatly across cultures. I once heard of some middle-eastern culture where a father normally expresses affection (of the normal, parental variety) for his infant son by kissing his penis. Seriously. I heard about it in intercultural communications class back at community college. Apparently some immigrant dad got in BIG trouble with the courts and couldn't understand why.

Also, do they have the "britzel" in Russia? I don't know what it's called elsewhere, but if you press your lips up against a flat area of skin and blow, it makes a strong tickling sensation and a very funny noise, like a fart in a helium-filled room. Infants tend to laugh hysterically when you do it to them. So who knows, Putin could just be a bit mixed up?

You must be kidding. The kid is proud as hell. I bet he is a hero in his kindergarten now, and telling stories to his buddies how cool it was to meet the president.

Maybe the KGB or a facsimile of contacted the boys parents, showed em the Gulag as a choice to offering a testimony the boy wouldnt wash his belly

            I hope you were kidding.

He is a child and therefore wouldnt understand how inappropriate that appeared to a non Soviet
