Work's inside our supervisors are smart enough to back off and let us to our work pay's better than what most people get (but still not enough for what I do)

On the bad side: Upper management is vile, unprincipled, incompentent, oppressive and would only be properly located if they were placed between two obese buttocks. Worse...I'm a union VP, which means I have to deal with these *******s.

On the other hand...they have to deal with me.

Unlike Lancer, I don't have to wear women's blouses. But according to our unisexual dress policy, I could if I so chose to do so.

i work for a private health insurance company. it's not too hard, the money is alright and i get on well with the people. that said, as soon as something better comes along, i'll be out of there faster than **** off a stick.

Money's not that good, I'm not in a field I want to be in, I don't think the experience will help me get the job I want, and the job gets so incredibly boring.

However, I have benefits and vacation which rocks.

In about a month we'll have gone through an important audit so I figure I'll start looking for another job after that.

well my job is terrible. No other managers show up anymore (it is a city-wide problem effecting over a dozen stores) and, as a result, I've accumulated 126 hrs in the past 2 weeks... yeah 46 hrs of overtime. Over a week and then some! Can I get time and a half twice? in other words (time and half)*1.5?

Checkers is the worst corporation in the US. One manager hasn't been paid on time in 6 weeks! Every two weeks, he has to contact the area manager and the accounting dept down in Tampa and get them to give him his pay. They take at least a day to do it and if they're especially lazy, he won't get his money til the next Monday.

as for me...

I think the worst time was when I was abandoned by my area manager when he sent me to another store several miles from my home and left me with no transportation after closing the store at 2 am (yes, 2 in the morning). I was told I would be given a ride back but my area manager acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. His exact words were,

"It's 2 in the morning! Are you crazy?!"
"Well, how do I get home?"
"Take a bus or something."
"No buses run at 2 in the morning [I would have to take three buses just to get home]" "
"Well take a cab [we're talking clear across the city here... 10+ miles]"
"Will I be re-imbursed?"
"No." Click

God damn, I was helping you out at this store which only had two managers working at it (not enough for 7 days a week, open from 8 am-2 am) and you treat me like this? Huh? Should've known when the drawers ended up being short at that store (a lot of people worked them so I couldn't blame anyone individually) and my area manager told me just to pick someone (ANYONE!) and blame them.

and it's incredible how the general manager and the area manager and the district manager all stress different things. To one, sales is most important, the other labor control, the other service times... and then they get furious when I take it upon my self to not manage but be active on the floor taking and making orders (it gives me fantastic numbers in all the areas that they are concerned with) yet despite these numbers, they tell me to get off a position and leave it to the crew... but then we'll blow labor if i'm not active! MOTHER****ERS! I'm busting my ass for you so I can put up truly fantastic numbers and you tell me to stop!

Oh yeah and I was robbed twice at gunpoint in a single 30 day period by inside jobs with people posing as managers with manager shirts on and following all proper protocols (he posed as someone receiving a product transfer and he signed all the paperwork like someone who had been trained to do it!) Well, the second time, he had street clothes on but he waltzed in through the closed and locked backdoor... crawled through the shelving placed against that door in the stockroom, then robbed us, having full knowledge of our bank deposit procedures.

Worst job? NEVER WORK AT CHECKERS/RALLYS!!!

oh yeah and now they have the safes set up so managers can't open them without Brinks armored unlocking them. What if someone gets robbed again? They'll take a bullet in the head for Checkers?! One of the robbers was furious about the old safe's 10 minute delay before opening... he waited 10 minutes for it, the gun pointed at my head... he took my wallet and took out my state ID with my address on it and said he'd either shoot me now or kill me later if I was ****ing with him and i didn't get him the money.

but now with us not being able to open the safes? What then? Will someone have to die for this money? Is this legal?

did i forget to say I only make $8.00/hr?

oh yeah and i designed an algorithm for projecting sales that I proved to be more accurate than their current moving average system... it got me recognition from some corporate people but more along the lines of... "Ramsey? Oh yeah the mathematical genius down in Philly with the sales projections thing! That stuff is way over my head! Finance used to give me headaches in school!"

I'm a ****ing Finance major in my fourth year of college, with no criminal record, and I can't get a ****ing job! I've applied to dozens and dozens of jobs and been rejected by all! HR Departments look for a way to wittle down the number of applicants, i.e. to reject anyone they can, no matter how well they can do the job. They'll see how little your employers value you and use that for an excuse to toss you in the reject pile.

I don't know how you guys there like your resumes. I see problems with your resume. Not the stuff you have done, I think that's good, but just the way your resume is written. It sounds a bit desperate (this is a feeling, can't put my finger on it), it doesn't show what you want to do (except grad school -> away from employer) and what your plans are. I mean, you don't need to draw the full roadmap, but at least implicate somehow. Business world is a bit broad concept IMO. It also lacks something.

It's not a BAD resume, but there's lots to work with and resume will get you the interviews so.. you need to work it. You're a hard worker, you take crap and deal with it. It's good attitude, the ability to take blows. Not in all levels of work, but entry and little further from that, no one wants attitude. Then again in professional level, you can't be a pushover anymore.

So,... I'd suggest you actively look for a new job at all times, aim a bit higher, send your resumes after you've worked it, keep being active. You only need one good job and it will be your stepping stone. Keep your record clear (work record), don't get fired and do your job well and seek for a way out at all times.

I'm looking for a new job too, even though I just started here 2 months ago. I consider every job as a stepping stone until I'm at my goal, and I know the type of job I need next, and the next after that so I'm always seeking for the next ladder.

Some might consider that as stupid but hey, screw them. Like you said, you've been robbed a few times and you don't deserve to be shot over some job like that.

Final words, I think there's nothing wrong with your credits and history, you should work your resume though and actively pursue a new place. I have few places I look for a job every single day (via the internet). The same places. I'm waiting for an opening and I will send my resume the second it opens. I've worked my resume too and it's about right now.

These other folks could help you with the resume, I don't k now how you guys do your resumes over there.

My point is, if I was hiring, I would get 100 resumes like yours. All qualified people, but they won't stand out from the stack of papers. It doesn't say why I should hire you. I know it's kind of an open resume thing, however, I still don't see why I should hire you over every other applicant. You have good things there like the leading thing with 10 people etc... those are the things I want to hear. I want to know what you can do, and a little bit what you are all about. Like, I have very short personal interests thing in my resume. But like I said, I don't know if you guys do that in there, we do it in here so...

And about your accomplishments at your current job, the algorithm projecting things.. well.. you know it's a big corporation and you're close to entry level position, they will give you nothing for these. It sucks, but that's the way it is. At most, some dick will take credit for it as well. They don't appreciate your skills enough AND your skills are higher than the requirements of your job. A clear sign for looking a new place.

And when you get an interview, don't bash your previous employers, never do that

hmmm-- my new job ( I started a month ago) seems to be my best job EVER. My boss seems great and he lets me run my own files which for the most part are interesting and a challenge. My assistant is a hottie and funny as hell.

The boss is the type who, on a particularly pleasant day will tell everyone to "get out of here and go enjoy the day" at around 4 pm

The only downside is that the base salary was some tens of thousands less than the job I left to take this one but when I add in pension plan (8% of salary contributed by the employer only), the stock options and the stock purchase matching ( employer will match any purchase of company stock up to 5% of salary) I figure I will come out about even on money stuff in the long run.

Oh did I mention they just instituted a flex-time program that means we all get two Fridays off each month

I'll give it a NINE only because I hesitate to rank anybody or anything a TEN ever

Criminal defense attorney

Hours are very flexible-only required to be in court about 6 hours a week max, however else I spend my time is pretty much up to me. Very loose supervision over my work. I have a paralegal that is very competent (quite a change for me).

Clients are a bit of a pain, but go with the territory, and some really need help. I'm dealing with drug cases now, so my clients aren't overly violent or dangerous, mainly junkies who at most will steal from Target or prostitute themselves out for a fix-at worst my clients are facing 4.5 years if they are habitual offenders, otherwise 3 (there are exceptions of course, multiple cases and the like).

Get to deal with constitutional arguments on a daily basis-4th amendment mainly, pretty intellectually stimulating. Good for the ego Haven't had a jury trial in 6 months, though I have a week long one coming up at the end of july (securities fraud case I'm second chairing). I'm exactly where I want to be at age 27.95.

Oh, pay isn't great, but I've gotten raised by 12k over last year and I am free to pursue other endeavors so long as I don't neglect my duties. Time off and benefits and general freedom are huge pluses where I am.
