As for the Holland/Portugal ref, when no one is stepping up to defend you, then you know you've screwed the pooch (so to speak).“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Admittedly, both teams went into a foul frenzy but often-times it is poor refereeing early thats sets the stage for that. I missed the first 20 minutes of that match so I don't know what happened there but by the second half BOTH teams were doing very very stupid and silly thingsYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

If you watch most Portugal or Netherlands matches, you'll realize they normally don't go nuts. Any match has the potential to get crazy if it is allowed to, but the ref has to calm people down.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Late reply to Locutus...
[q=Locutus]Also, very few people in the Netherlands ever expect the national team to win any major tournament.
(...)
So yes, in my experience the English are much more delusional about the abilities of their team/country than fans in any other major European nation. Not saying it doesn't happen at all elsewhere, but it's definitely worst in England.[/q]
That's funny...
