  • Hey, Ming watch the Cubs game last night?

    • Be nice.

Yeesh. Two grandslams and a 2-run dinger in the same inning? Excessive. I like it.

He'd be great as a Yankee. They don't need much. Philly NEEDS a lot, and he's not bringing it.

Some team may win the World Series WITH Abreu, but no team will ever win the World Series BECAUSE of Abreu.

well... unless he doesn't hustle to catch the ball that results in the game 7 winning run for the OTHER team...

        • Blech. I don't like winning b/c of a blown call. Posada was out. Maybe Damon's AB goes differently with 2 out, maybe not. But it's clear the Yanks got 4 outs in the 9th, thanks to the ump. I've seen calls go against them, but given the situation (9th inning of a 1-run game) this one was huge.

So, that Lester kid up in Beantown is pretty good, eh? The Royals pretty much define futility but 8 2/3 innings of shutout ball is damned good.

          • The White Sox looked great in Detroit yesterday, and continued their year long beat down on the Tigers. Hopefully, this will continue for the rest of this key series.

And the Cubs actually looked tough against Houston last night... but since they suck, I hope they continue to suck so that maybe they will clean house...

            • White Sox are now 6-1 against the Tigers this season.
To us, it is the BEAST.

              • I hope the WS and Tigers beat each other up. Just in case

The Cubs do suck, and most likely will continue to suck for the forseeable future. Isn't that why both you and Sava are following the White Sox now?

I've always followed all Chicago sports teams. I still follow the Cubs, but for obvious reason, I'm rooting harder for the White Sox at the moment.

The Cubs are still my more favorite team of the two... meaning, I would rather see the successful team be the Cubs rather than the Sox. However, in terms of team philosophy and the overall culture of the two organizations, I definitely like the White Sox approach to baseball much more than the Cubs.

The Cubs are purely a corporate entity who want to make money. Winning is a secondary goal of theirs. With the White Sox, it's the other way around. They care about winning first. It shows in how they conduct business, acquire players, and basically, in all aspects in how they run their organization. My decision to root for the Sox more than the Cubs is not just a result of the Sox' success last year, it's been a reflection of the teams' culture over the past few years.

The Cubs run in 2003 was fun, but there were problems with that team. 2004 was a terrible year. It brought to light issues with the organization and I just have not forgiven the Cubs for the way they conducted themselves then and since.

The Cubs need to seriously change the culture of the entire organization if they want me as a fan again. It's not just about firing Dusty.

                  Go White Sox

Unlike many Chicago baseball fans, I can honestly say that I've followed both teams LONG before the Sox's current run...

Yeah, I'm a die hard Cub fan... but the first major league game I ever went to was a Sox game... And you have to remember, when I started watching baseball, the only way the Cubs would ever have met the Sox would have been in the World Series... and that sure as hell wasn't going to happen So I saw no reason why I couldn't root for a team in both leagues.

When I lived downtown and went to far more ball games, I was likely to go to 20 or more Cub games a year, but also 10 or so White Sox games... far more than some of the true White Sox fans

And another thing... you assumption that we are only following the Sox now because the Cubs Suck is kind of silly... The Cubs have mostly sucked during my life time

                    • But the WS are finally good (whereas they too sucked much of the time in the past) There's a reason to pay attention to them: they're a smart organization that's putting a winning team on the field.

However, if you say you rooted for both all the while, ok, I believe you. I also don't really care, frankly, I'm not some crazed purist. I am rather fond of the Mets. In fact, as a child, I rooted for the Mets b/c my mom got tickets to Shea from her company, and my little league team was named the Mets. No worries.

Yeah... my dad, a die hard Cub fan, took me to both Cubs and Sox games when I was a kid. I was exposed to both teams early on. We lived in Springfield Illinois for a while in my early childhood, so I went to some Springfield Cardinals games (their single A affiliate at the time), so there was a period I rooted for the Cardinals (shivers), but that was short lived.

But after we moved back into the Chicago area, we started going to both Cubs and Sox games again (and Kane County Cougars!). I was always a Cub fan because of my dad... the 1989 season was a great one. I remember it well.

I got into the Sox around the early 90's when they got good then and when I started to go to a lot of games around then. Frank Thomas came up, Jack McDowell, Robin Ventura... that whole team. I remember there was one game that Ventura won in the 9th inning with a walk-off grand slam.

                        That was awesome.

Since then, I've been a Chicago fan... but it's always been Cubs first. Now, I root more for the Sox, but to be honest, the Cubs are still more my favorite team. It's just they are in my doghouse right now.

There's just more to cheer for on the South Side. It's really hard to enjoy Cubs baseball right now.

                          • Yeah, he was great.

Though, I'm enjoying Joe Crede's clutch homers much more than Ventura's... only because of Hawk Harrelson's calls...
