There is no season on record that ever had 26 frikkin' tropical cyclones. Furthermore, hurricane data from that period is rather unreliable.

Do you believe the Earth is flat, too?

Wouldn't it be true in any thread, though?

It's a sort of game show we have hosted by Stephen "too good for Dr. Who" Fry. It's generally interlligent stuff, facts that not many people know, hence QI- Quite Interesting. But someone else I know mentioned the same flat earth non-fact to me after seeing it mentioned on the show the other day, so I thought you might've too...

We've documented a hole in the ozone layer, we spew materials into the atmosphere at unprecedented rates, but the fact that it's Al Gore delivering the message seems to override the facts. Personally, I think that's why Gore let himself get all fat. He knows his political days are over, so he's trying to get behind an issue he believes in.

Using footage of calving glaciers was done to make a point, not as hard, damning evidence of global warming. The oil company employee/climatology "expert" who points this out is engaging in the classic strawman technique, deflecting attention from the scientific issue by criticizing the filmmaker's dramatization.

And yet you criticize Gore for pointing out his critic's prejudicial affiliation. What, that's not allowed?

Hate on Gore and his movie all you want. His goal was to raise awareness of the global warming issue, and (despite the dilettantes who would rather talk about Gore himself) the effort seems quite successful.

This is really hilarious - claiming that the scientist are making a strawman because he says that the "documentation" displayed by calving glaciers is quite common

If anyone is pulling a strawman, it's those that use quite common things as documentation of their claims.

Well the disappearance of the worlds glaciers is due to warming. Whether each individual event that involves a glacier breaking up or whatever was in the movie is related to the warming is debatable, but that's like the tobacco companies claiming that that they don't cause lung cancer because it's possible to get lung cancer without being a smoker.

Of course it is - that I guess everyone agrees on. Only thing is that noone has a clue wether its due to local variations, global variations or human impact.

BS. Mainly because the claim that tobacco don't cause cancer is debunked. Why else putting all those warnings on the packages ?

Those two aren't comparable since it of course is dangerous to inhale toxic fumes, while there are only indicies that human impact may cause harm.
