Is Iran Picking a Fight?

Just watched a report in CBS that Iranians, with their government's involvement, are helping to plant explosive devices like the ones that recently killed 4 US soldiers.

If true, I say we don't get mad, we get them.

Iraq has its own forces. Also, we could turn over our duties there to the Turks in exchange for oil. The government of Iraq would back that rather than get hung.

Lancer, that's always a possibility for sure but IMO there are too much moving things in that move right now that it would be utter madness to do that.

If there's a need to deploy forces, I'd see Iraq as one place for doubling and if we talk about new places, there's lots of crap happening in Africa and they could use some force to smash some of them militants.

As Iran, if I was them and wanted the destruction of the US, I'd be provoking. Why? Because it's weak now. SUre, there's lots of equipment and superior power, but the implications for international relations and all that might be worth it. US might turn into an isolated place again soon if that would happen, and Europe could be dominated and shut down with fanatism, they will opt PC and self-shut up mode. Support Iraqi insurgents, establish your will there, hook up them WMDs.. there's lots of moves to be made, in fact I think Iran has a lot more options than for example US has. I don't think Iran's back is against the wall at all.

Would they lose the war, hells yeah they would get an ass kicking, but after that? I just don't see that as something viable for say, next 10 or 20 year plan would have.

What about turning over our duties there to Turkey? The Turks have no interest in an Islamic extremeist government in Iraq. Also, they have plenty of experience running the place.

You think the Iraqis would allow the Turks in? What are you smoking and why aren't you sharing? And the Kurds would fight them tooth and nail regardless.

We could maintain forces in Kurdish Iraq if they want us there. The problem with other pasts of Iraq is that they don't want non muslims 'occupying'. The Turks are muslims, as you know.

The Iraqi government would request the help of Turkey if it looked like they were going to lose control and get killed in the process.

But the Turks are Turks, and the Ottoman Turks occupied Iraq for four hundred years. Other Turks occupied them for another five hundred years before that. Do you really think they want the Turks back?

Apparently, for some reason, you do. Well let me disabuse you of that notion. They absolutely in no way want the Turks back. If, by some strange "miracle" the Iraqi government invited the Turks in, their own military would overthrow them.

It's very simple, we attack Iran, the Iraqi Shi'ites revolt and kick our ass outta Iraq.

This is why we're trying the unusal strategy of negotiating with them, as opposed to our standard operating procedure of issuing ultimatums, declaring it deplomacy, then attacking when our dictat is rebuffed.
