Che, thanks, your post is heartening. The arab hatred for the Turks is a split in the ranks of the moslems. Considering the weakness of western resolve, I'm glad they have their problems as well.

Speaking of which, did you look at the poll? Though several voted the choice 'do nothing' in the face of Iran killing GIs, and some 'cut and run', like that would save lives , the majority, by alot, voted for taking the battle to the enemy.

THAT I didn't expect, and I find very gratifying.

It seems the general opinion is that I'm wrong about Turkey. Oh well. I still believe that if the US army opened up recruitment to veterans up to 60 years old that more than enough patriots would step up to hold Iraq while the young guys took Iran.

It may also be that if the US went into Iran that alot of Iraqi vets of the Iraq/Iran war would join up and help out, I don't know.

I find those two statements are as grounded on rational and realistic expectations as the expectation that US troops would be greeted with flowers by Iraqis.

Moslems were never a unified, monolithic movement, except in the days of the Prophet Mohammed, peace be on his name. Not only is there the Shia Sunni split, but each brach has multiple schools of thought. Even the most extreme version of Islam, Wahabbism, is rent into competing schools.

That doesn't mean that they are willing to see other Muslims attacked by outsiders. The war we wage in Iraq pisses off most Muslims.

Now, as to the OP itself, exactly what evidence is there that Iran is helping the insurgents plant bombs? Unless the Shi'ites are already working against us, I highly doubt that Iran is helping the Sunnis, because the Sunni's main targets are Shi'ites. I consider this about as likely as that BS story the Admin floated about Iran was aiding al-Qaeda, even though al-Qaeda is at war with Shia Islam. If the sole evidence that Iran is planting roadside bombs in Iraq is the administration, then you have to consider that info up there with every other lie the Administration had told us. At this point, only a total noob would believe anything our government says anymore.

I also think that your assertion that old vets would sign up to die in Iraq is just silly. The military is having serious retention problems and can't meet its recruitment goals. You think vets who know better are gonna sign up to ruin their lives? Maybe the ones who never saw combat, but they'll be useless.

Lastly, I voted banana, cuz I think your options suck.

It's good that you vote banana, but not for the reason that you did. While my options may "suck" to you, banana isn't a sucky option and that's why you felt you could vote that way. So, consider not voting banana in the future for negative reasons, but because of the positive things about banana.

Regarding the Iranians blowing up our troops, I watched it on MSNBC, don't know where they got it.

Victor, lots of vets would go, we're from a different generation. Believe me on this...

No, I won't believe that most old vets are stupid enough to volunteer to go to Iraq.

They may have the will to go, but are they still fit at that age? I mean there's a reason the military tries to recruit young people.

I could man a checkpoint, sure. Most of the duties there could be done by older people.

Even stuff alot more active than manning checkpoints...assaulting a strongpoint. Older people have more patience and might be better at some things like that. Mountain climbing, jumping out of airplanes...I'll leave to the younger guys. Not alot of those things going on in Iraq I'm thinking.

                          Ah, but France?

Increase the enlistment age to 60 and offer to declare war on France and how many would sign up?
