  • Actually, he said he wanted Toronto, but looked at several teams in the East and West. He never said he ruled Edmonton out categorically. In fact he said it was one of the best places he ever played (outside of the brutal travel).

    • Given the issue of travel being raised by several players in wanting to go East, I think the current scheduling scheme's days are numbered.

        That ain't the stuff.
Why are you so focused on the past?

You guys haven't won a cup in 40 years, you are in no position to throw stones, my friend.

Yes, the Flames were in dire straights for many years as a combination of a weak Canadian dollar, terrible GMs and coaches, etc. The Leafs didn't win a cup during that time, either.

On the other hand, the Flames have been an incredibly strong team the past two seasons -- one of the best in the league -- and you still can't accept that.

It's very obvious to me that you actually don't watch hockey these days. Which isn't your fault, as you're in the hell of Asia, but you shouldn't be commenting on stuff you know absolutely nothing about.

Toronto fielded a terrible team last year, and the team this year looks to be just as terrible. Overpaying mediocre players categorically with no semblance of an overarching strategy is the name of the game in Toronto for 40 years running, why change it now?

        • Actually, the strategy in TO seems to be to dramatically improve defence and let the youngsters and Sundin look after offence.

          Bet they make the playoffs.

          • Dramatically improve defence? It's now adequate and no more, but for a huge pricetag.

              yeah

              1. they sucked
              2. they couldn't score
              3. Sutter was a horrible coach
              4. they sucked
              5. QUACK QUACK QUACK

They will probably get knocked out of the first round again... if they even make the playoffs. They should with Kipper, and finally some scoring help for Iginla (maybe he might score more than Gionta this year).
To us, it is the BEAST.

              • For Peca, it was a family issue, more than anything. He was willing to take a cut in salary to play in Toronto.

                • Yeah, we know you think Sutter sucks. People who know about hockey disagree, such as Gretzky.

Take your opinions about hockey and put them behind your local club, they're going to be great yet again.

                    Family and boyhood dream.

And travel, from what he says.

Look at his regular season performance...he was going to take a pay cut no matter where he played.

Actually I do get to see the games, but delayed by a couple of weeks. Usually watch them at a bar after playing hockey.

For the Stanely Cup final, a buddy got the tape. About 15 of us Canadians watched it on June 30. Kind of felt like we were watching it live. Near the end, one of the guys "Edmonton can still do it."

And even if I wasn't watching any games, I'd still know more about hockey than you.

Agreed. Besides the travel, a big problem is the lack of games between western and eastern Canadian teams.

Of course... Janet had 50 G's on Calgary in game 7 back in 2004... Wayne was sure it was a lock

I thought the eastern teams would consider that a blessing...

Look at his playoff performance. Look at his proven abilities. Look at his record. Look at his trophies.

Toronto got a great player for a low price.
