          CONMEBOL: 75% (3/4)
          UEFA: 71% (10/14)
          Africa: 20% (1/5)
          Asia: 0% (0/4)
          Oceania: 100% (1/1)

And you want to tell us Africa and Asia certainly deserve more slots? Now,I agree that this WC wasn't particularily favorable for Africa, but still, you can see the trend.
I'm not arguing for more slots for Europe or South America, since it's a good thing that the WC actually has a good number of teams from all corners of the world. But stating that Europe is over-represented...

hmmm-- I am quite comfortable with the current numbers from each region. They reflect the fact that Europe is the best football region. There is no way one can deny that. However, if you cannot make the top FOURTEEN, it is difficult to argue that you are a top team that was hard done by in the qualification process.

I think that the current number of spots for Africa or Asia is a small price to pay for the development of the game. Africa in particular seems to be very competitive within its own region. Its interesting to note that that NONE of the African teams in the top 20 of the FIFA rankings (Nigeria, Cameroon and Egypt) qualified this time. (I know we berate the rankings)

It looked like France had arrived last night - it was great to see Vieira and Henry on top form together again. They were also good for 80 minutes against S. Korea, but they look far more dangerous without Zidane.

You can barely call the qualified nations the top FOURTEEN. There are several groups in Europe...and there are often so called death groups.

And IMO, it is better to be too exclusionist than being too 'open'. It makes the Finals far more exciting that few teams are in, and much more of an achievement to get in. And of course there are questions of how freaking long can the World Cup go on for. IMO, a month is a very good time frame.

Though Africa should get at least one more spot. Probably from CONCACAF, even though Trinidad & Tobago (who finished 4th and won the playoff to get in) played pretty well. Make the final one game playoff to get in be between Asia & Africa perhaps.
Serbia & Montenegro is something of a special case, I can imagine weren't terribly motivated to perform well under that banner, considering the recent political events. Plus, they were in the group of death.

And there are quality teams missing who can easily top, say, T&T or Togo: Turkey, Russia, Romania, Denmark...

                    Check out De Rossi's performance.
Yeah DeRossi is obviously a punk. Wouldn't be so bad it if he didn't keep claiming innocence after the foul.

                        Damn! Poor Phil.

It was a mighty header, and with Henry's finish too it was a good day for Arsenal goals.

I thought thats the game Lawrance has talked about. Check out 7:40 in the video for DeRossi's assault. The swiss referee Urs Meier (commentator on ZDF) referred to that foul after the USA-Italy match. He also said directly after the Swiss-Italy match that DeRossi shouldnt be allowed to participate in the WC. Well, he was prolly right.
