Some do, some don't. Many don't have an application as part of the hiring process. To be sure, if I were an employer, I would ask the number up front.

I wonder whether I would pass on hiring somebody who didn't fill in that part of the application. That's where the rubber hits the road.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I would leave that blank or put " market "

Yes, I always try not to answer that question.

Negotiating after an offer is made is always fair game.
Regardless of how any question is answered.

It's the last time the employee will have any leverage so you might as well take advantage of it. If you don't get the job because of it, that's the risk you take.

Actually, I may have some negotiations later on this week/beginning of next week over pay with a new job...I shall keep you posted...and naturally, ask for advice...that'll doom me to failure

I doubt Lancer's Wife is a "Mr" or a "Miss".

I was explaining what the term meant (in this context), not what the right answer was.

I told her that she needed to put it a bit high so that she could create a little room for negotiation, but she was too nervous about not getting the job because of that...
                              That's why employers do that.

Lancer, my sister-in-law is a flight attendant for United. My bother usually checks his e-mail only in the morning, so I should have an aswer for you sometime tomorrow.

(You're not near an airport, or I'd suggest having Dolores hang around there and ask flight attendants what they make. --You couldn't do htat because they'd assume you were just using some kind of bizarre pick up line. )

Though we don't know exactly how much it would pay we would have to give up alot for likely not much more. That and we're happy doing what we're doing...

Dolores is shying away from the idea on her own, which I kinda glad of.
