I can tell you now, that it isn't a lot. They go for young people who are willing to work for very little bacause of the travelling involved. The **** is that there isn't any much time left to do anything at your destination.
Usually they start short haul and work there way (where most of them want to be). Short haul stinks as it is quite hard work (even going up and down a couple of times a day will wear you out). It's basically doing every thing five times ( beverages, etc...).
To give an example, when my ex used to do short haul, she would quite often just make rounds trips to Paris ( from Brussels), four times a day. There's very little fun involved and she'd be knackered when she got home.Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. It is not at all silly for the prospective employee to ask the prospective employer what the job pays.

True that.

Funny incident:
My wife needed to hire someone to fill the post of a guy who bailed recently. So she (and HR people) go throught he interview process. At one point, the applicant is asked how much he is looking to get paid (I don't recall if my wife asked or the HR lady asked). He responded with a range: $75-80k.
The company offers him the job and offers $78k. So he says "well, I was really looking for $80k." Are you kidding me? You give a range, they give you a number that is closer to the top of the range than the bottom, and you come back and ask for more?
And they caved in and gave it to him. Ugh.

To me it's pathetic. But hey, the company caved so he won. Yay for him. Shows how much spine the company has.
They asked him what he wanted, and then offered him what he asked for, and then he asked for more. That's crappy. But hey, like you said, it's not wrong.

I am always in favour of the employee taking as much as he can get. Likely they're not going to hire somebody else because of 2000$, so it's probably a smart gamble. More important, though, he should never have let them force him to make the first offer. That's always a mistake.12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

Yes, the question of "what are you looking to make" is low - it makes you bid against yourself.
So in the end all's fair, I guess.

My fiancee just got a new job, and I am 100% certain that she left ~5000$ on the table when she got to the section about salary expectations. I told her that she needed to put it a bit high so that she could create a little room for negotiation, but she was too nervous about not getting the job because of that...12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

It's important to avoid opening the bidding with a prospective employer.
Sometimes that's difficult.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

It seems to be standard practice nowadays to put that question right on the original application...12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET
