  • Why should I stay a republican?

    Abortion, but what else?

I still have hope for a free Iraq...

I'm interested to hear from anyone, but fellow republicans particularly.

I'm really losing faith in the party.

That depends on what are the most important issues to you. The the important issues are still the same, stay. If they aren't, switch.

I have some really big issues that I differ from the Republicans. I support abortion and am huge on equal rights for gays, but I see them as minor to the bigger issues of National Defense and Econ.

Abortion is a litmus test for me. That said, I don't believe anymore that the republicans are truly against it. It isd a device to get votes and then forget about.

Gays, equal rights, definately! No special rights however.

National defense...all is going fairly well imo. Rare opinion, but there you go.

The economy, niether the dems or repubs are trying to fix things. They do whatever gets them the big $$$ from the corporations who they both really represent. The corporations stand for their CEOs bottom line, not the people or nation.

Well, there you go. If abortion is the issue, then go with that. While I agree that it is a vote getter for the repubs, I still feel that they are against it, just not doing anything about it. However, supporting the Republicans while advocating abortion, will still have an impact on it. The more Justices that get appointed to the SC by repubs the more likely R v Wade might get over turned. IMHO. Switch or go independant (That's what I am really. I am not a card carring Republican. I just generally support them and agree with them.).

Why should he make it a reason why he supports the Republicans when he just said they haven't satisfied his stand on the issue?

Sorry, took a second read to get your full gist. I agree. If banning abortion is a most important issue for anyone they should really be independent since neither party is going to do jack for them.

We are the preeminent national organization for whole life Democrats, promoting whole-life issues that protect human life at all of its stages.. We are the pro-life voice and wing of the Democratic Party.

Then again, just be an independent. Vote for the person not the party.

The Marianas(sp?) islands are islands in the pacific which are part of the United States. A large amount of garment manufacturing goes on there, mostly with Chinese women who pay to get a job there, being told they are paying 30k to get a job in the U.S.

Once they get there they are essentially slaves. Any woman who become pregnant there are forced to have abortions.

The Republicans have, on every single occasion, killed a bill in comitee which would extend workers protection rights to the Marianas. They killed the bill in comitte every time for the last 6 years.

The corporations which own most of the factories on the Marianas give enormous amounts of money every year to Republicans in the senate for their campaign funds.

Republicans are not anti abortion, they are pro-getting-the-votes-of-people-who-hate-abortion-so-they-can-get-re-elected.

                      I hate abortion too.

                      I am not a Republican.

I think small goverment is fantastic.
I am against (massive) deficit spending, and boy is it massive.
                      I am against goverment waste.
                      I am against corporate corruption.
I think the purpose of goverment is to PROTECT MY RIGHTS.
I am a huge supporter of the second amendment and I know it is my constitutional right to own any gun I want.

If the Republicans actually championed these, I would vote Republican, they don't.

The Republican party does not DO any of the things it promises, why support them?

So far I'm agreeing with everything written.

Didn't know about the Marianas though. Do you have a link Vesayen? I find it a little tough to chew.

the problem is they no longer believe in small goverment. They are willing to spend lots of money in order to get the undecided vote, because they know the hardcore republicans will always vote for them.

I don't necessarily want a small goverment, but I want a lean goverment. And yes I do believe cutting budgets increases efficiency. It worked for the military.

There are plenty of pro-life Democrats, and the GOP was never really pro-life. They dangled the carrot in front of the pro-life crowd, but never delivered (excuse the pun).

You might want to check out the Constitutional Party, Lancer. While I hesitate to suggest something as reactionary as that, they are a very Christian party. Might be your kinda thing.

As for the GOP being the party of national defense, not really. They are one of the parties of the defense industry )the other being the Democrats), which is not the same thing. Anyone who stands up against waste in the military gets smeared as being soft on defense. Anyone who opposes needless wars is portrayed as soft on defense.

Ask yourself this. Are we really safer today because we invaded Iraq? Has it enhanced American security and prestiage or decreased it? While you consider this, remember we are pulling troops out of Afganistan to send them to Iraq at the same time that tha Taliban are growing in strength again.
