It's Cort Haus's opinion - did you expect it to be anything but foolish?
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

Very true. All tose technological and cultural advancements made by Muslim Arabs during Europe's dark ages are crap.

      Also, Aneeshm isn't exactly Christian.

So you can't see the difference between criticizing a religion and criticizing an ethnic group which mostly worships that religion? Great job

I am fully aware of the fact that a signicificantly large part of the world's scientific innovations were made in Arabian countries between the years 476-1492 AD. The point I was trying to make in this post is that it's a red herring.

          edit:
It's Cort Haus's opinion - did you expect it to be anything but foolish?
I want to make sure that you people understand that I meant that such an opinion would be an opinion of an ignorant man, not necessarily of a foolish or a stupid man. I'm not trying to insult anyone here. Ignorance in some area means that a person hasn't learned something vital in the area he's ignorant in. Being foolish means something else entirely. There's a difference.

It's a pity they demolished it. Places of religious worship make nifty bars or rock nightclubs.

You do realize that a large part of the cohesiveness of Arabian civilization - in which technological and cultural innovation was able flourish - was due to the unifying power of Islamic religion, right?

damn, KH, id have expected YOU at least to have read the original post.

"Officials of the Evacuee Property Trust Board (EPTB), which maintains the properties of minorities, concealed from their chairman that the Krishna temple was a place of worship, the daily Dawn alleged in a report on Tuesday."

Evacuee - IE it belonged to Hindus who fled Pakistan during partition. Apparently such property is held in trust in Pakistan - aneeshm, I presume theres some comparable body in India? (And yes, IIUC israel demolished buildings left behind by Pals in '48 - but they considered that a ***-for-tat for property left behind by jewish refugees from arab lands)

"A prominent jeweller of the area was allowed to demolish the temple in Wachhoowali, Rang Mahal, and raise a commercial building in its place, the Dawn reported quoting official documents.

The demolition was a violation of the EPTB's rules on management and disposal of urban evacuee trust properties. An EPTB official told the newspaper that the EPTB chairman would not have allowed the temple to be transferred to the jeweler if he had been given correct information."

It was done in violation of the EPTBs own rules. The demolition was ILLEGAL.

That said, it seems to have been motivated by simple greed, not intolerance.

I did. I just don't understand what the EPTB is, or why it was in possession of a Hindu house of worship.

I disagree with your presumption that the existance of islam was required for the scientific innovations in question.

If it was held in trust for somebody else then what the hell would they be doing transferring it even if it wasn't a temple?

I don't think Islam was required, but I think it was there, and it served the purpose. I'm not a fan of religion, and I dislike pretty much all institutions of religion, but they do have some uses.
