I wonder if I can feed a bit of it to my dog and see if he gets sick or not. Ah, hell. I'll just ritually dump it in the garbage disposal.

This piss poor student eats out of the garbage. Even right now I have some 'best before afterhours' bbq pork kebabs in my fridge. It might taste a little sour but it wont kill ya. Its amazing what people can eat when you have tapeworms keeping your pipelines clean.

If you are concerned you could always have sour milk and 'bulgarian' youghurt as a dessert.

Come to think of it I should probably throw out the milk too.

Worst conversation I ever witnessed was when I was visiting a friend and his roommake came out of the kitchen:

Roommate: Is eggnog supposed to have chunks?
                    Friend: Uh, no.
Roommate: Oh, OK. It was good anyway.

Microorganisms leave behind toxins as waste products as they grow. When enough time has passed the food becomes chemically dangerous, not just biologically dangerous. Cooking thoroughly will remove the microorganisms but leave the toxins they produced behind. You can die from those. Throw it out.

If you would have bought it fresh and wrapped in vaccum, then a week and a half might have been acceptable. Don't forget that while the proces - KH just described - slows down alot in the freezer, it doesn't come to a halt completely.

That's because you don't freeze it hard enough.

The process KH describes completely halts in the freezer even though it immediately resumes after thawing. Frozen organisms don't metabolize.

On the other hand, there tends to be plenty of these nasties on chicken products to begin with and by the end of a week and a half in the fridge that can be more than enough toxins to seriously sicken anybody.
