If the West hadn't backed the nationalists in Slovenia and Croatia, there wouldn't have been a civil war. They would have had to fight Milosevic politically instead of militarily. And they had no business backing the Ustashi in Croatia in any circumstances.

This deserves a separate thread but the entire west took the approach of banning military aid to all factions in former yugoslavia. Since only the serbians inherited much of the existing ex-yugoslav military hardware this amounted takings sides against the nationalists in Slovenia and Croatia.Originally posted by chegitz guevara
