No, you'll still need that for the GPU.

At least I can march it back to 350 watts.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

The price war has started. Last week, AMD slashed its prices sometimes up to 50%...

Isn't Intel coming out with a quadcore chip soon?

What pisses me off, is the CNN newsfeed at work yesterday listed, "INTEL UNVEILS NEW CORE2 CHIP ... HAS TWO CORES WHICH ALLOW USERS TO OPERATE TWO NUMBER-HEAVY PROGRAMS AT ONCE" or something like that.

As if having 2 cores on a processor was something Intel just recently invented

Anyone have any input on what would be the best processor on the market now for between $150 and $250, understanding that I'd rather buy $150 (or less?) but will happily pay more for a significant increase in functionality... from the pricing list above I'd presume an X2 3800 to 4200 is probably my best bet? Any difference in the two 4200s (939 vs AM2) in function, or is it just a socket difference where I'd probably want the newer socket assuming I can find equally priced/good motherboards?

Well, that's your problem. You're expecting the MSM like CNN to report on technological developments correctly.

Not only that, just yesterday? Further proof that the MSM is at least 1-2 weeks behind the curve.

Zipzoomfly.com has them in Aug. 8.

Finally there's sign of life in the danish web-shops, the first specifications for a Conroe computer are online:

                            (click 'specificationer')

The only differences between those two (as far as I can see) are their choices of motherboards, the amount of ram and having a SLI setup

I'm looking for a computer costing about $2200 (~13.000 kr)
Based on the benchmarks I've seen, these are the only things I'm sure about:
nVidia GeForce 7900GT (any brands to recommend?)
                            Core 2 Duo E6600
2 GB ram (what brand? Kingston?)

I'm not really interested in building it myself, too lazy for that

What motherboard would be the best choice? Anything I should know about, before making my final choice?

Edit: For all links you need to allow popups for that site
