OK, well as of now, Intel has a white elephant on its hands. They aren't doing well this quarter at all.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

The funny part is they tried to sell MS the Pentium Ds for the Xbox 360 (they knew internally they were switching architectures and probably would have overstock)."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Is it real or is it just a paper launch? Wonder if it's worth stopping the order, it hasn't shipped yet.
Probably won't be in my price range anyway, though the higher-end Core Duos will probably drop..."In the beginning was the Word. Then came the ******* word processor." -Dan Simmons, Hyperion

I'm shocked, Asher... Intel's latest, not yet released chip, in its own built systems, outpeforms AMD's chip that's a few years old now?

Considering AMD doesn't have any real new chips coming out til 2007 -- and even that is just a tweak of the Athlon 64/K8 core -- I think it's pretty big news.
And I don't think the Athlon 64 FX-62 is a couple years old...
In fact, it's about a week old and is the first chip to use AMD's new socket and DDR2 memory."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

They should buy nVidia!
There was an article at Ars yesterday that said if AMD buys ATi, they can use their coherent HyperTransport interface with ATi's Crossfire to bridge the CPU directly with a graphics/physics coprocessor. If it works out, it sounds like it could give AMD a major price/performance boost (well, I guess it's a performance/price boost) despite being behind in the CPU architecture, while also giving them a speedy multiprocessor interface for the server market. It's interesting, I hope it works out for them.

Osbourne Effect
Osbourne announced their new computer before it was ready. No one would buy their old one while the waited for the new one to come out. Osbourne ran into delays and then, ran out of money before the new computer ever came out.
This is what is happening to Intel.“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”
