  • Sure. Kirk's Enterprise could do it. It just took a long-ass time, and even with 30+ Romulan and Cardie ships bombarding the surface they estimated it would take several hours.
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

    • In a later episode the Defiant visited the Founder's planet on a mission. Dr. Basheer quipped something about how the Defiant could render the surface of the planet uninhabitable with a few rounds.

The combined Obsidian Order / T'alshear fleet intended to pulverize the planet to dust.

A couple of factors. One, the phasers were effective against the Borg soldiers for a limited time until they have adapted, and then the red shirts needed to "change frequency." However, they were offing Borg soldiers while the handheld phasers were working. Now, if every Fed ship fired phasers at a different frequency the Borg Cube couldn't block all of them.

As for the Borg "sphere," well, it wasn't a standard Borg ship so it couldn't stand up to the Fed's newest and meanest cruiser. Sort of like a Borg ant wouldn't stand up to human stomping, no matter how it tried to adapt.

The second factor is space combat is much faster than shipboad combat. Space combats are in seconds, shipboard combat are in minutes (at least).

                              Hah! Take your best shot.

Teh Crusher and Janeway are only as lame as the Ewoks. Even the VOY transwarp-evolution episode can't compare to the lameness of teh Jar-Jar.
