If you look at all the national "President's approval rating" -polls and take their median, FOX's and CBS's poll results are consistently above or below the margin of error. What this tells to me: looks like they're both pulling results out of their asses. So IMHO, CBS polls have no credibility.

I'm not sure the military would go along with that. In fact, I think they'd remove him from power fairly quickly. On the other hand, he and the Congressional Republicans could use their Congressional power to suspecnd the Constitution because of a national emergency, and continue renewing every six months.

short answer: no

long answer: McCarthy's right-hand man in his "investigations" was a guy called Roy Cohn. The only thing which unites McCarthy and Nixon is that they were both on the House committee to investigate unamerican activities (HUAC) in the late 1940s and that they both rhetorically accused communists from pretty much everything during their early Senate terms in the very early 1950s. Many Congressmen and Senators did exactly what they were doing before McCarthy (an intellectually mediocre, corrupt and perverted invididual) got drunk on his power.

McCarthy's "investigations" and accusations didn't turn into a full-blown fiasco until the autumn of 1953, when he started making up names of people in the US army who were supposedly involved in communist conspiracies. That's why he was eventually censured by the US senate on the summer of 1954. Nixon was elected as the VP of USA in 1952.

If GWB will be concidered to be a good pres in the future will mostly depend on the outcome of the Iraq/Afghanistan conflict. If these nations will normalise in the next 10 days GWB might very well be concidered to be one of the best presidents since he 'fixed' 2 nations that used to be a part of the axis of evil.

If the USA have to leave both countries like Vietnam and the countries end up as paria states (like they used to be) and wordt of all: Al Qaida will be able to do some nightmare actions in the USA, then GWB will most probably be concidered to be one of the worst presidents ever in the future.

It's really too earlie to tell right now if he'll be concidered to be one of the best or one of the worst presidents. All that try to do are leaded by their political or ideological opinion.
