Here in San Diego we had our homeland security budget slashed by 50% this year. Please remember that this is the largest border city in the US, that it sits on the world's busiest border crossing, and that in 1999 Al Qaeda was trying to decid if they wanted to blow up Coronado Bridge or not (they were trying to decide between the Golden Gate Bridge, LAX, and Coronado Bridge [which is the second largest bridge in the state] but decided to go after LAX. Luckily, a vigilant border guard caught them trying to smuggle explosives and foiled the plot). Personally, I think the easiest way to again attack the US would be to hijack a plane in Tijuana, Mexico and fly the 8 minutes it would take to get to San Diego where you can crash into your choice of a skyscrapper, a nuclear power plant, a large bridge, or one of several military bases.
But according to Bush we only deserve $8 million in anti-terror funds and nothing in any other year. Hell, I'd settle for some x-ray machines to search every truck that crosses the US-Mexico border instead of just searching 1 in 10 as we're doing now. That isn't going to happen because Bush and his Republican friendsdon't give a rat's ass about border security beyond using it as an election tool.Last edited by Dinner; June 1, 2006, 20:47.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Ah, good... then I'll say I totally agree. Sounds duplicitous saying we need to focus on border security (for immigrants) and then cutting funding for homeland security (who would be doing border security) because it wasn't "at risk" enough.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Heaping insult on injury, Homeland Security reviewers slammed some of the city's key anti-terror programs as among the worst in the nation — including the vaunted NYPD counterterrorism unit.
Emergency plans for the police, fire, hospitals and other city departments were considered so inferior that "a special condition will be included in the grant award prohibiting drawdown of funds ... until they have been approved through DHS," Homeland's assessment concluded.
Huh, first time I've heard of New York's anti-terrorism efforts as "worst in the nation"."I read a book twice as fast as anybody else. First, I read the beginning, and then I read the ending, and then I start in the middle and read toward whatever end I like best." - Gracie Allen

NYC was already paying millions out of pocket for anti-terrorist activity, because NYC actually feels one of the most important things to deter terrorist is continual police prescence, so NYC unlike most cities uses anti-terrorist money for operation expenses, like police overtime, guarding such unimportant targets as the Federal Reserve Bank, NY Stock Exchange, multiple large bridges, including the GW Bridge, a crucial link on Interstate 95, so forth, and so on.
BUt I am sure Omaha sure needs millions more...If you don't like reality, change it! me

That the rest of America is realizing that NYC is nothing more than a dirty, festering cesspool, not a glorious, clean city with a storied history like Chicago?
Chicago
i swear to god if North Dakota got any money the country is completely mentally bankrupt
Fixed.
The Japanese Garden in the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens.
I've seen better...
BUt I am sure Omaha sure needs millions more...
Omaha is an important telecommunications and tranportation hub for the entire nation, not to mention the site of the US Strategic Command. The people are also friendly and the city doesn't smell like urine...

This is why terrorism thrives on spectacular terror, which is much more conducive to its message than mundane violence. Of course if they ever do destroy the SoL I advocate building a giant Danish mohamed Cartoon statue in it's place just so they can feel they accomplished something really special.

Hmm, if I wanted to hurt or humiliate the US in the eyes of the world, that would be my number one target.
Can you imagine the tv images you could get from that, for years to come!Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus
