Clinton put a "high" priority on terrorism very late in his administration, after numerous AQ attacks.

Well there was the first attempt on the World Trade Center, by AQ and the embassy bombings in Africa.

he 'lost' the debates because the bar for bush to win was just not to screw up his sentences.

Codswallop. Say what you will about Saddam's brutally repressive regime, but at least it was a brutally repressive regime. Al Qaeda and every other Islamist nutjob organization were not operating with impunity within Iraq's borders. The Bushies created that situation when they destabilized the place while radically misjudging the difficulty in re-stabilizing it.

The sad thing is, all Shrub had to do to understand this was phone home. His own father refused to press on to Baghdad in 1991 because he knew what destabilizing Iraq would mean.

But, of course, the old man -- for all his faults -- actually had brains, experience, and a first-hand knowledge of war.

The Iraqi invasion has done nothing to further the WoT (unless we're trying to help our enemies), was unecessary from the standpoint of national security (no clear & present danger) and has sucked up resources that could've been used elsewhere.

But yeah, it was a great ****ing idea.

One thing, though: Al Gore Public perception of Gore is that he's an uncharasmatic loser. He would lose.

I'm sorry! It is obvious that you have never met the man! Gore listens only to money and has ZERO integrity. He is a very buyable opinion.

You don't know jack, evidently, about the situation behind this, Rufus. Firing on U.S. planes that patrolled the No Fly Zone was justification enough.

Justification enough for retaliation, or justification for invasion and regime change before a sufficient post-combat plan is devised?

By the way, how were the No Fly Zones ok?

Furthermore, even if firing on our aircraft provided a casus belli, that STILL doesn't make the invasion a good idea.

He broke the Cease Fire. The No Fly Zone was U.N. imposed.
                          Deal with it.

                            No it wasn't:

The Iraqi no-fly zones (NFZs) were unilaterally proclaimed by the United States, United Kingdom and France after the Gulf War of 1991 allegedly to protect Kurds in the north and Shiite Muslims in the south. Iraqi aircraft were forbidden from flying inside the zones. The policy was enforced by US, UK and French aircraft patrols until France withdrew in 1998 because of concerns about the legality of the NFZs. The United States cited United Nations Security Council Resolution 688 as reason for the operations, but the majority of international observers disagreed and claimed they were illegal.
