    Exactly!

I love how getting you to agree with me is so easy...
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

The article mentions 40 people passed by. Hard to believe that 40 people couldn't have helped if they'd tried.
        What?

What extra? I'd assume, that everything they take with them, is there to keep them from dying. Give something away, and you risk life and limb, though, not as many in this situation.

Don't they have a 'buffer' with them in case of unexpected delays or other situations?

I feel pretty sure they have, and that's why they can't use it on a stupid climber who didn't have that.

So, 40 people, each with a "security buffer" + whatever they won't use to try to reach the top if they stop to help this guy.

                What am i missing?
                What?

The buffer is what you have in excess of what's expected to be needed, right? And if you abort the mission, you'll be having some more in excess of what's expected to be needed, right?

It wasn't some 40 people gathering around a car accident in sunny california taking pics with their mobiles. It was 40 persons in several groups and they all came to the same conclusion - there wasn't anything they could do.

It would appear the majority of people venturing out to climb Mount Everest don't care about anyone but themselves.

                      What a shocker.

I wish we could drop some people on the side of Everest and see what they do. Gotta love this hindsight chiding .

I think that Imran's idea isn't that bad after all

                            From the article :

In radio calls, his party was told that if the man had been there any length of time without oxygen, there was nothing that could be done for the climber.
Just one minor problem - how do we get you dumped there back when it happened.

Hindsight chiding is the thing many ACS members do best.

No one has pointed out, that I noticed, leaving garbage in the wilderness. They can fine a person for that act.

Yup, you all know more about Everest than he does.
