      I think I thought of a solution...

      1. Canada annexes the Turks and Caicos

      2. America annexes Canada

A winner for everyone involved, except possibly for America. Sure, we get another island paradise, but we also get Newfoundland...

it might be a better bargain if we just let Canada annex us after the islands. Not only would they be less likely to make a fuss that way but we'd be able to travel again without having to pretend to be Canadians

              Geronimo has the idea.

Sit back. Relax. The cultural takeover of the US will continue.

I refuse to pretend to be a Canadian while overseas. Sure, people are nicer to you when you do so, but that's only because they pity you...

Now, why does Turks & Caicos want to belong to the land of morose caribou?
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

Maybe they've seen how easy it is to blackmail the federal government into conceding all sorts of special privledges for your region so long as once in a while you hint that you just might threaten to bail out of the union?

The islands were part of the UK's Jamaican colony until 1962, when they assumed the status of a separate crown colony upon Jamaica's independence. The governor of The Bahamas oversaw affairs from 1965 to 1973. With Bahamian independence, the islands received a separate governor in 1973. Although independence was agreed upon for 1982, the policy was reversed and the islands remain a British overseas territory.

The Brits are not usually in the habit of letting people just annex their overseas possesions.
"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003
