No doubt Clinton was corrupt. However, he continued Bush's "engagement" policy with China and junked his own party's confrontational approach. In the long run, the engagement policy has been working to turn China into a freer society.

We'll see about that. But I don't think there was any other realistic option.

Imran, despite the 69% from Rottentomatoes, there were a lot of reviewers who also saw North Country as Oscar material. As I had not seen it until last week, I had no idea just how good a movie it was. Far better than the film that won, IMHO. Charlize Theron's performance was truly powerful.

I agree. But the Dems of the early 90's wanted to cut China off at the knees. Clinton said he was going to do just that during the campaign. But, when he got into office, he did an about-face and adopted the Bush policy. (I am sure he consulted Nixon on this.)

And, BTW, Nixon also began using quota's and timetables in Affirmative Action. To some extent, these measures, more than any other, helped integrate America.

The Academy wasn't going to give any awards to a film about sexual harrassment and calling those who complained "sluts," whores and the like, and threatening their jobs. That would bring up the ugly memories of the Clinton administration at a time when Hollywood needs to buff up the Clinton rep and further Bash Bush.
You are connecting dots where there are no dots to connect, to begin with.

Maybe we can also draw a directly-related analogy between Bush's alcoholism in the 1980s and the movie, Dukes of Hazard.

MrFun, the movies the Acedemy nominated for awards this year were so left-wing agenda driven as to cause widespread comment. It was not just me who noticed it.

So Ned thinks it is OK to sell military secrets to hostile foreign power. Interesting...

I don't know why you think good movies end up being Oscar fodder. You have overwrought, manipulative, and inelegant tripe like Crash being nominated, and winning.

Really, if you think it's a conspiracy, Ned, then you're a doofus--Oscar nomination and victories have nothing to do with quality or politics, but clever marketing.

Crash, mind you, spent wads of cash on sending complimentary copies of the DVD to every single voter, while other films, such as Brokeback Mountain, did not.

                          Not politics. Slick marketing.

Also, while your personal, anecdotal experience clearly differs, the only two people I've ever heard refer to any of Clinton's conquests as "sluts" have both been on the rightist side of the scale.

The left wingers were not unhappy whatsoever at the pro-gay, Bash Bush agenda.

i swear ned, you are either some kind of ubertroll or you are faithfully tuned in to ksfo or knew and fox news simultaneously every waking hour. the lines you come up with and the neverending "look what clinton did" antics in the face of current issues only makes you look more out of touch with america than you already are. and it lets plato masturbate your ego for a few posts too.

and clinton had the benefit of being in the catbird seat and NOT ****ing it too badly. thats why we like him plato. cause he could have ****ed up royally like bush has in every regard but he didnt. his only shortcoming was that he was a hedonistic man.

and im calling bull**** on your feigned disgust for clinton's cheating when you call yourself a kennedy democrat and he made clinton look like an undersexed college freshman.

this is just another example of people from the right throwing complete non sequitars to the bull**** happening out there to cover their own asses. i mean really that all happened 6+ years ago.

i guess elephants never forget no matter how absurd and removed from relevancy it is.
I wouldn't call him hedonistic. What guy is going to turn down a bj when he doesn't get them from his wife?
