This has to be a joke: Proposed Iranian law requires minoriities to wear colour bands
It's your article dude. Another number, 82 publications subpeonaed or closed in the past two years. One for every million person in the past two years. Yes, there isn't free press, but this is definitely not a totalitarian society.
And no, I didn't just learn all that from your articles. I've read articles on Iranian freedoms for a number of years, believe it or not.
Yeah, "several" judges demanded a death penalty. There are a lot of Mullahs in Qom, you realize, right? But let's deal with actual sentences, since there shouldn't be any shortage of outrages, right?

Reporting on abuse in detention facilities is totally different from reporting on what Parliament just passed. Iran is certainly not at the point where the latter would be suppressed.
You:
She took a picture of a prison.
Me:
Pictures. And as a prelude to...? Governments don't lock people up merely for admiring the architecture of state buildings.
It should be totally obvious what I'm saying. The idea that I'm arguing for her suppression is absurd, and indicative of extremely poor reading skills.

Suspended or closed, son. Not subpoenaed.
You're right. No shortage of outrages. I am still on page 1 afterall.
Starting with beating the brains in of a photojournalist who you apparently think shouldn't have been so nosey.

Suspended then, doesn't change the point. One for each million in the past two years.
But I'd rather start with the Canuck who makes idiotic assumptions.

Let me spell this out because some people apparantly can't read past a second grade level.
I said that she was killed because she was reporting on the detention facility's conditions. You said that she was killed for taking a picture. I pointed out that governments don't kill for people admiring architecture, with the obvious unspoken conclusion that they get killed for reporting on ****ty conditions in said prison.

You:

YOU say she was reporting on abuses in prisons.
Nobody knows.
They beat her brains in and she can't tell.
You are leaping through hoops of conclusions to somehow understand what happened to her.
What's wrong with she was a woman and ran afoul of the law in a gravely misogynistic society?
As for what the press of Iran can be counted on to report, I think the trail of bodies in prisons and graves says something about how much trust to put in what is in the accepted Iranian press, isn't it?
Damn, I think I'm at LotM's original point.

Well, actually, you're only partially wrong.
She was there taking photos of protests in front of that prison.
You can make all the random conclusions you want to. You'll still be pulling **** out of your ass.

Why was a Canadian journalist hanging out around an Iranian prison, taking pictures? For the architecture? I don't know what she was doing, but the most likely conclusion is that she was reporting on the conditions there. And the police likely made the same conclusion. No hoops required, just a little common sense.
The point again is that the a society that supresses and sometimes kills journalists who report on unsavory conditions doesn't mean it necessarily suppresses widely effective legislation passed by parliament.
For the umpteenth time, not every ****ty society is North Korea.

What were the protests about? Something besides the prison?

Oh please. Read whatever retarded point you want out of that.

You naturally go looking for people who know what is going on. They would most likely be from there. They aren't going to be nice about the current regime, most likely.
The NP made a mistake publishing a libelous article that had just enough basis in truth to get through, or someone was too stupid to catch it first.
Read the commentary. It is full of 'I don't knows', 'they passed something like that two years ago' etc.
But to sit here and say that we can trust what official news comes out of a country that tortures and murders journalists who piss the beards off is... really rather foolish.
