Korea and Japan are. Meaning then that they probably don't subsidize their shipping industries.

Meaning that if people buy from them over Croatia, there's a compelling reason. Price, technology, quality, speed, or efficiency. Maybe all of the above.

Either way, and now I'm going to be an ass, I can't imagine anything coming out of Croatia to not be crap. I mean, heck, look at your Eurovision entry...

Don't know about Japan, but Korea is certainly pouring money into shipbuilding. Even more, its shipyards are parts of those huge enteprises (chaebol?) which produce everything from cars, ships, airconditioners to ballpens. They are famously impenetrable with regards to who owns what and where the money flows.

People do buy from Croatia, but we lose money on it, that's the problem. And now that China is competing, God save our asses.

OK, as far as I understand, does the state subsidize shipbuilding:

            - Croatia: yes

            - Poland: yes

            - Finland: yes

            - China: yes

            - Italy?

            - Germany?

            - UK?

            - France?

The only thing the US produces is jet planes and dollar bills. Since both seem always to be in high demand, that's ok.

The shipyards are part of the huge chaebol, which are nothing more than conglomerates. While the government used to give extraordinarily low interest rate loans to these megacorps, they no longer do so with any sort of frequency. So no, there's no direct subsidies there.

They might indeed get fairly hefty tax breaks. Is that a subsidy? Maybe, but Korea's not unique in that regard, as every other nation tends to give its businesses tax breaks.

As far as transparency goes, I'll agree, they're not that grand yet. But they've been forced to get that much better since the disaster of '97, so many of their flagrant abuses are caught.

Frankly, it's not their fault if Croatia loses money on shipbuilding. It's your fault for building subpar vehicles--maybe not even subpar, but unable to sell them at a rate which would let you break even based on economics of scale or speed--

Two regions where Korea definitely has you beat. All I've seen has suggested that they're one of the fastest builders, with the best quality, and can handle a large number of orders.

If you can't match them on that, it doesn't matter how much you subsidize them, you'll end up losing.

And your Eurovision entry is crap. It's nowhere near as good as Saras's Lithuanian entry.

Right. You've caught the Stockholm syndrome and now you defend Korea while everyone knows they steal candy from children and run up massive debt to support their shipyards.

And our eurovision entry will end up in the top 3, guaranteed.

Of course it will. Balkans etc are famous for being mafiosos and vote only each other. I think it's because you have genitals attached to your neighbours but who knows the real reason. Maybe they just like hairy butts?

First, Croatia is not part of Balkans. Secondly, look who's speaking. Finland aka "sweden 12 points"

No, I said Balkans etc .. meaning the area around. Secondly, we like to give Swedes points and they sometimes return the favour out of pity.

Maybe you have sexual liquids in brains, eyes and definitely ears or can't you afford mirrors in Croatia? Or you just love the butt mud smell

Like I said, you only proved my point acting like a mafioso here. If you don't correct that rotten criminal attitude, EU is forbidden fruits I mind you.

I don't know what are "sexual liquids in the brains" but I certainly feel like I have that.

As for Europe, Croatia was Europe while Finland was where Greenpeace went to save polar bears from being molested by the native savages (which means still today).

And thirdly, Finnish shipbuilding industry is also subsidized, which is visible by the fact that you build luxury cruisers of all things.

Did I said we don't subsidy ships? No. I said no one can compete with them. Period.

Native savages? What statistics woudl you like to compare and please explain why we were on the highway, passing you guys with no problems if we have polar bears and stuff? What's your excuse? That says more about you than it says about us. You are lazy, human rights offending criminals, all of you, you Croatian mafiosos!11

Well maybe I misunderstood the whole OECD/shipbuilding thing.
