  • Subsidies or not, how is it their fault if someone else can't stay competitive? Why is it okay to subsidize agricultural industries, but not commerical ones?

Simply put, Finland seems to be doing fine. Croatia? Either figure out a way to be competitive, or get out of the kitchen.
I guess it just seems like dirty pool to me... to run major actions through the gov't so as legitimize non-competitive actions. Goes against my sense of fair play. (Same thing with ag subsidies.)

The US has basically said "there's no crying in baseball" and decided to take advantage of these subsidies rather than subsidizing its own commercial shipbuilders. But I guess I'm sympathetic to Croatia and Finland on the merits of the matter.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Just like Japan has done, S. Korea will realize that this M.O. only gets them so far in this world. The problem with state planning and intervention is that it makes your economy terribly inefficient. The change for Japan has been rather difficult.

Yeah, I wasn't really expecting much from it.

I think that Lancer should tell the story of how he met and fell in love with Dolores.

SKorea's still suffering from many of the effects of the '97 incident; indeed, though they've made many sweeping and progressive reforms...
