  • You're also making the mistake of assuming that winning the ESC means the winning song is of quality, or that any songs taking part have any sort of quality whatsoever.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

    • Of course you don't win only with bloc voting. You have to have quality song. I don't see why it's permissible for Winston that Ireland should win three times in a row, but nooooo, Turkey isn't allowed even to be granted points by north Europeans

      • I think someone just has an axe to grind, and I'm not talking about Lordi.

The voting phenomenon in the ESC is quite fascinating, in any case.

        • TeddyLegion,

You asked for proof, and I gave it, on a platter.

Just open you eyes and look at the numbers I posted.

They're far more telling than e.g. Denmark sometimes getting 3 points from Norway, other times nothing, yet other times a couple from Sweden.

Some people see only what they want to see, and sadly, it appears you don't want to see the monumental pattern involving Turkey and the 4 countries I listed.

          • I think they should dedicate a branch of the game theory to the ESC.

            • I agree with Winston, this is an outrage.

I shalle write a letter to the relevant authorities in France to denounce this horror

                • I made no mention of it being an outrage. I merely brought it up in the context of "political" voting.

                  Oops, new page.. almost forgot.

                    • The real outrage here is that France, along with Germany, UK and Spain, is guaranteed a place in the final every single year, no matter how close they will get to the ultimate stage of major suckage.

This time around, those 4 managed to place 22nd, 15th, 19th and 21st respectively. Clearly, they must be included in the contest at all costs!

And for how long has there been popular voting?

"He who pays decides the music" as we say in Austria. IIRC, those countries are also the ones that contribute most and, o course, have most possible spectators. So it's only fair to have them automatically classify, no matter how much they suck.

                          • Besides, we're guaranteed to lose anyway. Political voting favours small countries and Turkey.

Excellent point! Since 1995 or so, I believe. After all, this didn't really become significant until popular voting was introduced. This is a mass psychological phenomenon.
