A table? I always thought it was painted on a poplar (wood) panel, which was pretty standard for european artists of that time...

No, no it was painted over an Excel table. The "guiding force" of Florence (certainly not one of the Medici, who were at one of their low points) was actually playing EU2. The table includes a list of provinces, population in each, and the infrastructure buildings, in each province, as well as levels of tax revenue, revolt risk, nationalism, etc.

Yes, sorry , i mixed up the English word with the spanish one. I mean a wood panel, so "tabla" in Spanish.

I don't understand why anyone would need to fact check this thing. It's a decent, but certainly not great, and somewhat predictable piece of pulp fiction. It could be an entertaining movie, but enough with the controversy crap already.

The fact that this is a fictional piece of work is by itself, not the source of the controversy. The controversy is that the author denies that his work is fiction and that there are too many people who take his word as fact without question.

If the author had written this book as purely a novel without making outlandish claims that it's based on facts, then there would be less controversy.
