Thank you, I understand what the controversy is. It just seems common sense would put an end to it, but I suppose that's in short supply.
When it comes to these kinds of topics, most people become quite credulous, like kids. It is as if they wanted to believe that stuff.

I read the book. The first half was mildly entertaining, but the writting was bad. It all went downhill in the second half. The whole conspiracy was pretty lame, if you ask me.

I don't know... I kinda enjoyed it. Read too much non-fiction before, all filled with the world's REAL problems. Pretending they didn't exist was fun for a bit.

Victor, might I recommend Left Behind? Similar style, just as based in "factual" reality... but not so much talking about all the world's real problems.

Actually, you might get a kick out of this. The antichrist in that series is Romanian. And... he has The Plan.

About secret plans and societies i would recomend Focault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco, it is nearly encyclopedic. Eco knows really A LOT about the topic. Sometimes it is not too easy to read but the reader can learn a lot with this book.

Skip the books and go for the Kurt Cammerron movie.

What little I saw of LB the movie was hysterically funny. My brother's ex kicked us both out of the room for snickering and joking while it was playing.

The Priory of Zion not real? I actually first heard about it on the History Channel some years before Brown's book. Indeed, much of what is in Brown's book is based on "fact," at least to the extent legends are based on fact.

Well, as far as I can determine, there is indeed a planet called "Earth," populated by creatures known as "humans." And there does appear to be a "Roman Catholic Church." So, yes, it is indeed based on fact in that sense.

And I agree that Brown's book is otherwise pulp fiction. But it should translate well to the silver screen.

Well Elok, there are scholars who even debate whether Jesus existed at all because there is no hard evidence today that he did. Much of this whole topic of ancient religions is simply "myth." How much of it is true and how much of it is fancy is debatable at best.

There's a great show on the National Geographic Channel, where scientists look at religious stuff called Science of the Bible. They had one show on the life of Jesus where they showed that our image of what he must have been like has been distorted by the church over the years. They pointed to specific things like the Sermon on the Mount and said that given the accoustics of the place it's supposed to happen, there's no way this was a real event; rather, it is a collection of Jesus's teachings. And other stuff like that, it was kinda interesting.

Why all the fuzz about Dan Brown? I played Gabriel Knight 2 way back in the 90's and it had the exact same premisse (sp?).

Here is just a guy with a great plot and no writing skills. I wish I hadn't spend any money on it
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
                            Once again...

The whole thing was invented in the early 60s by a french guy. He admitted it in court.

                              edit: mid 50s actually.
