    Slow gets it.

Newt was shown the door by his own party. While they may like SOME of what he says (he has been critical of Bush at times), they also don't forgive him for getting out-politic-ed by President Clinton. In addition, he wasn't all that beloved by his own party. He surved a coup attempt by some House Republicans in 1997 and failed to deliver gains at the ballot box in 1998.

Furthermore, he is HIGHLY polarizing. You think Hillary is polarizing, wait until you see the disapproval ratings for Newt if he ever becomes a significant factor.

And yes, he resigned. He never lost a race since 1979, even when the Dems in Georgia tried to redistrict him out.

          What ridiculousness, Drake.

Nader would never accept being a VP nominee! Think will you!

Edwards has pretty-boy charisma, not slick-politician charisma.

I think he was unenthusiastic about being Congress when he was no longer the Speaker.

You are a loon aren't you? There was NO WAY Gingrich was going to lose his seat. He was (and still is) massively popular in his district.

I think the left underestimates just how popular Newt is among Republicans. He, after all, engineered the miracle Republican take-over of Congress in '94. That made him enemy #1 of the left, particularly of the media. But the more they ridicule(d) the man, the more popular he gets among the 80% of Americans who are not liberals.

You would also have to understand is that nominating Newt would be an act of revenge as well. Newt was the Dems first victim in its own jihad against Republicans after its fall from power in '94.
